With 80 travel teams from as far away as Puerto Rico and college coaches representing some the nation’s best conferences including the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big XII, Pac-10, and SEC, the Peach State Basketball Tip-Off Classic (www.peachstatehoops.com) was one of the most competitive events on the East Coast during the April evaluation weekend. The event was held under one roof as always at the Suwanee Sports Academy in Suwanee, GA. All-tournament teams and a full write up will be available by mid-week. Hopefully, the players, parents and college coaches in the building had as much fun and enjoyed the experience as much as I did. Our July evaluation events include the Best of Summer Tournament July 11-13 at the Georgia Tech CRC in Atlanta, GA and the Summer Invitational July 25-27 at the Suwanee Sports Academy in Suwanee, GA. We welcome teams regardless of any other affiliation.

Event Recap: Peach State Basketball Tip Off Classic – Part One
By: Keil Anthony Moore April 27, 2008 The Peach State Basketball Tip-Off Classic took place on Friday April 18th, and with the final games to be played on Sunday April 20th. The event was sold out with 80 teams playing all of their games under one roof at the Suwanee Sports Academy in front of over 90 college coaches including Alabama, Auburn, Baylor, Duke, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Stanford. In an event that saw teams traveling from as far as Puerto Rico to play in the event, the talent in the gym was at an all time high. Friday afternoon saw games played from a number of the regions best players and outstanding performances from a group of up and comers. Peach State Elite Orange’s Latifah Coleman and Tiffany Mitchell got their events started off on the right foot with solid pre bracket play. At 4:40 pm on Friday all of the games started to count, and the level of competition kicked off at a high that would stay in the air until the final whistle. One of the best games of the first night saw the Central Kentucky Angels, Anna Martin, (2009) score 30 points against the Georgia Hoopstars Black and Georgia Tech commit Jasmine Blain (2009). *All-Tournament Teams were selected by lead SEHR analyst Jonathan Hemingway and Jump Off Plus columnist Keil Anthony Moore. Black Bracket Championship Game The College Park Lady Rim Rockers faced off against Alabama Elite U17 in the black bracket championship game. In a game that saw the highly touted Tamkia Willis (2009) double and triple teamed regularly, the Alabama Elite U17 team was able to neutralize the effect of the outstanding post player and pull out a decisive victory. All Tournament Team Danielle Vaughn Alabama Elite 2009 Shanise Foster Alabama Elite 2009 Shanece McKinney Georgia Blazers Black 2009 Tamika Willis College Park 2009 Roxyali Munoz Puerto Rican U17 2009 Blue Bracket Championship Game In the blue bracket championship game, the Louisville Lady Legends faced off against a very talented Slidell Magic team that had been led all weekend by Hannah Tracey (2012). Despite another solid game by Tracey, the young Lady Legend squad proved to be too much getting good performances from two post players, Teonia McCune (2011) and Jaylan Bodiford (2011). All Tournament Team Teonia McCune Lady Legends 2011 Hannah Tracey Slidell Magic 2012 Morgan Phillips Albany Hotshots 2011 Jessica Thomas Gainesville Warriors 2013 Kym Ellison Georgia Blazers 2012 Futures Bracket Championship Game Tennessee Team Pride U13 was able to pull out a win and championship of the Futures Bracket against the Alabama Elite U13 team. All Tournament Team Tyisha Petty Team Pride 2013 Caya Williams Team Pride 2012 Keara Woods Alabama Elite 2011 Sabrina Jackson Louisville Select 2013 Kayla Styles Louisville Select 2013 Gray Bracket Championship Game In the championship game for the Gray bracket, the North East Georgia Hoopsters were able to use their full court pressure and secure the championship against the South Florida Lady Jags U15. All Tournament Team Jorishica Martin NE Georgia Hoopstars 2009 Ashlee Lasiter Tenn. Team Pride 2009 Clarissa Coddington S. Florida Lady Jags U15 2011 April Carson S. Florida Lady Jags U15 2011 Brandi Teague S. Florida Lady Jags U15 2012 Open Bracket The Open Bracket saw an all Tennessee final with the Tennessee Xtreme red facing off against the Tennessee Dreams. Despite solid efforts throughout the game from Tennessee Dreams players, the Dreams hopes of a title were dashed in large part due to the job that Jordyn Wolcott (2011) and Antronetta Harvey (2009) did on the offensive and defensive glass. All Tournament Team Jordyn Wolcott Tennessee Xtreme 2011 Antronetta Harvey Tennessee Xtreme 2009 Sarah Thomas Lady Shooters 2010 Crystal Johnson Broward Storm 2010 Orange Bracket Championship Game After narrowly scrapping by the Azalea City Eagles and the clutch play of Jaquayla Berry, (2009) who seemed to make key basket after key basket all weekend long, the Douglasville Lady Tigers woke up bright and early for there 8:00 am showdown with PT Cruise out of South Carolina. Douglasville, relied heavily on the post play of Jadechia Hill (2010) who did not disappoint leading Douglasville to the orange bracket championship beating the Cruise 48-43. All Tournament Team Jaquayla Berry Azalea City 2009 Jadechia Hill Douglasville 2010 Abrielle Clemons Azalea City 2009 Jasmine Jones Doulasville 2009 Taylor Mills KGC Lady Pride 2010 Premier Bracket Championship Game In a game in which to familiar foes faced off for what to the players must have seemed like the 100th time, Tar Heel State Elite and the Georgia Vipers faced off in the championship game of the Premier bracket. The Vipers who relied on the post play of Jocelyn Danley (2009) and Moneshia Simmons (2010) in the post, played Tar Heel State elite tough throughout the first half. The second half how ever would belong to Tar Heel State, who made play after play in the second half while marching to a bracket championship. All Tournament Team Katherine Barker Tar Heel State 2009 Jennifer Hailey Tar Heel State 2008 Jocelyn Danley Georgia Vipers 2009 Jaquelean Weathers Georgia Hoopstars Gold 2010 Brianna Meeks Georgia Pistols Gold 2009 Select Bracket Championship Game In what I like to call the I-4 showdown, the select bracket championship game saw the Orlando Comets and the Florida Wildcats faced off in what was one enjoyable game to watch. The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead due in large part to the play of Meghan Keough, (2011) Keough has an older sister who will be playing at FSU in the fall. After the early surge from the Wildcats, the Orlando Comets put the ball in the hands of Latavia Dempsey (2010), and she did not disappoint. Dempsey’s 2nd half performance in the select bracket championship game was without a doubt the best of the weekend. All Tournament Team Cabriel Duren Orlando Comets (2009) Megan Keough Florida Wildcats (2011) Brooke Bowie Orlando Comets (2010) Aisha Turner Atlanta Celticts (2012) Christy Hewatt Atlanta Cagers (2011) White Bracket Championship Game In what turned out to be the best championship game of the day, Peach State Elite Orange faced off against the Orlando Comets U16 team. In a game that saw solid head to head match ups at almost every spot on the floor, the key match up was at the guard spot with Sydney Wallace (2011) and Latavia Dempsey (2010) guarding each other each trip down the floor. Every time PSE Orange would pull away, the Comets would get a big basket from someone and move right back into the picture. PSE Orange pulled it out late and finishing the game off at the free throw line. All Tournament Team Latavia Dempsey Orlando Comets (2010) Latifah Coleman PSE Orange (2010) Sydney Wallace PSE Orange (2010) Jayme Gilbert Georgia Blazers White (2011) Carrie Orcucc Orlando Comets (2009) Elite Bracket Championship Game In the game of the day, Peach State Elite Black faced off against the Central Kentucky Angels and their tough combo guard Anna Martin. Martin had one of the best offensive weekends of any player at the event. Scoring and distributing the basketball well all weekend long. The 3:00 pm game was highly anticipated with college coaches scattered along the baseline jockeying for position to catch a glimpse of a great game. PSE Black led from the jump and never looked back. All Tournament Team Anna Martin Central Kentucky Angels (2009) Monique Willis Peach State Elite (2009) Blanche Alverson Peach State Elite (2009) Jassany Williams South Florida Lady Jags (2010) Alyssa Baron South Florida Lady Jags (2010) |
