I started a list of the top kids in Houston however I figured it wouldn' t be fair because after Nneka, Gilbreath and Elonu, it would be hard to single out other players as being the best this or the best that. I will however put together MY dream team that I would love to take on the circuit from Houston later on this week and pop everyone. I can't truly say who the best in Texas are after we name the ones every know about like Nneka, Pope and Gilbreath however how can you not mention PG Sydney Carter from Dallas or Nikki Green from Diboll. Better yet Destint Hughes and her sidekick Samantha whose last name I won't butcher. What I will do is post TABCs all region and all state teams which are the most respected lists in the state.

http://tabchoops.org/allstategirls.html

I will also include the Greater Houston Area All District picks which in some ways are biased but I won't get into that. At least now :o

Good Info! I watched a few of the Texas GBball Championship games (thank God for digital cable!)
Yall really pack the house, I guess it's truth to everything being BIG in Texas, the crowd was enormous, it looked like The Longhorn arena was full!!
What order are the regional & all-state lists in? I'm ruling out alphabetical...

Everything is bigger in Texas! It has changed so much since I lived in H-town, 20 years ago! I will be back for a hot visit in Jun. for a reunion, I may have to look a couple of folks up to hook up.

I am assuming the players are listed in each region by the number of votes they received.

The Angels are a very good team, in fact you all beat us pretty bad last night. I am really interested in meeting you and no one from the Angels would tell me who you were. Hope to see you tonight.

... just here to help kids. Only 2 people really knows me in Houston. I just love to watch kids grow and develop loving the sports the way they should. Respect, Honesty and Loyalty. I will keep in touch with you and will let you know developments on my end. It's bad I did not make it to watch last night's game. Out of town and will not be back till Tuesday. Good luck to your team and so the Angels.

Good luck to you guys but let me tell you a little story. Herb Ledee, Texas Blazers, had a 12u team tht was destroying every 12u team in the city. My daughter played for the Hotshots 12u, she was 11, and we beat Herb by one point one time and I believe he beat us by no less than 20 three or four times. Herb won the qualifier but his team didn't go, needless to say we were the second best team here and we we elected to go. I asked Herb why they weren't going and he told me they got drove the previous year and it made no snse to waste the money. This is why I like Herb today, at least most of the time because he can almost give me a straight answer most of the time. As I close from that superstar 12 team, I think one or two of those kids are playing at the next level. No All American, All State, All Region or even All City players came from that TERRIFIC 12 team.

I just learned to admire these girls, but most of all the CORE parents of this team that really built the organization from ground up. I think it is the driving force of the Houston Angels. You would love to have this group of parents in your team. It's very rare to have a combination of child parent commitment to the game. We see a lot of talent goes to waste for lack of parental support. Not this team.... Please read the history and find how far the parents had gone with their girls to make them a home. I am hoping that the CORE girls stay together till they graduate high school. I know it's a wishfull thingking, but only time will tell and as for right now let's just enjoy watching them grow and mature as great young women and athletes.

Good luck to the Angels and may your wings take you further than everyone can imagine.

When I went to 12u nationals in 2001 I was amazed at how many 6'2, 6'3 and 6'4 girls I saw who could actually play. 5'10 PGs with college bodies who were going coast to coast at will, hitting fade away threes, it was amazing but to take it a step further that same year my oldest daughter played on the best 13u I have seen in Houston. The Gilbreath kids, Jasmine Player who is at Baylor, Elisa Beagle who is at A&M CC, Brit Mason who is at Uof H and Cat Sharfer who is at Brown so that is 6 D1 players. My oldest could have played somewhere but chose the academic route but this team was beating the top 15s and 16s in the city. I truly thought they were going to make some noise at nationals but they ran into a team called East Bay Explosion who had the Paris girls. I think they lost 100 something to 60. I know the girls are even better now than they were 6 or 7 years ago and with a break here and there you all can make some noise. Good luck my invisible friend and make Houston proud. We have consistently had some of the top players in our great state who have not got the attention they deserved however that is about to change and I will be watching your girls and their progression over the next few years.

Who are some of the good players in 08 class that may go unnoticed by college because of lack of exposure?

There is ALOT of Dallas area talent going unnoticed these girls are playing on small AAU teams that do not travel out of Texas, some of them come off the bench and explode on court, I will start a list of names w/high schools and post it later...I've got my eyes open.

Tournaments to consider are Primetime - upcoming San Marcus tournament.

I can understand the cost of traveling but BCI, DFW and Sista Hoops/Team Texas should have some scouts as well. I am astounded at the talent we have and to be honest if a girl can play a little and has good grades, she can go and play college ball more times than not.
