themambas National Super 75 '09-10 vol.11

Trying to escape this stalking, walking, winter wonderland, the D-M-V stands ice-locked with the last games played 10 days ago save a handful. Not only has the nations capital been hit but the Blizzo' has decimated games in the Midwest, South and Eastern seaboard to remain undefeated as well as undaunted. Forty-nine states have been hit by the white stuff this season and along the mainland El Nino' is forty-eight and o'.

With most states preparing for postseason there wasn't alot of shakeup among the Super 75, with only a pair jumping in and no change among the top 25. El Nino', Mel Nino', we got status quo, Joe.

Two of the top dirty dozen had impressive 15 and 16 point wins over quality opponents. DETROIT COUNTRY DAY put away WAITE, 72-56, a week after WAITE put a stop to START by 20. The YELLOW JACKETS took a 4 point, 51-47 lead and went on a 21-9 run to close it out as AMBER DEANE scored 23 and AERIEL POWERS scored 22 while MADISON WILLIAMS posted 12 rebounds and 9 blocks over the NATASHA HOWARD-LED waite. HOWARD finished with 21 points. Big regional win for the YELLOWJACKETS who have beaten 3 of the top 5 in Michigan as well. DAY has won 64 of 66 over the last 3 seasons with a 1 point loss to EAST LANSING last year before winning the 'B' Division state title for a second straight year and a loss to BEN DAVIS IND the year before. Just 2 losses in 3 years which reminds me. There's something about MURRY. BERGTRAUM has lost only 2 in the last 3+ seasons including the stunner to China and co. and the big one for the marbles to the EAGLES of ST. MIKES. BERGTRAUM dominated CENTRAL DAUPHIN Saturday, blazing to a 40-16 halftime margin while holding All-American ALYSSA THOMAS to 2 first half points. THOMAS did finish with 23 including 7 in the final 2 minutes with the RAMS down 19, but the story was DORIS ORTEGA and the BLAZERS with ORTEGA's 1,000th point and the BLAZERS commanding performance headlining. Apple 2, aka, right now, by a hair, CHRIST THE KING, didn't have such luck with Jersey TOC defending champ, ST JOHN VIANNEY, losing 52-49. VIANNEY went up early, leading 18-11 after 1 before the ROYALS took a 2 point lead into intermission. It was all tied at 44 before the LANCERS scored the next 6 to hold off the ROYALS last charge. MISSY REPOLI led VIANNEY, scoring 20 points while JACKIE KATES came up big, scoring 6 of her 10 points in the final stanza like Tony Danza. Hey, it's Jersey. NIA ODEN led the ROYALS with 15 points and the ROYALS go on the road to face ARCHBISHOP CARROLL PA tomorrow. VIANNEY goes to EASTERN tomorrow and PEDDIE goes to NEPTUNE in a pair of Jersey juggernauts.

Playoffs ? Playoffs ? Are you kidding me, playoffs ? Yep. Both the Land of Lincoln, whose playoff starts this week, and the Hoosier state, whose started last week, have viable National Championship candidates again this year. A year ago there were 5 total from these great Midwestern states that did as well with the current big-wigs BEN DAVIS, BOLINGBROOK and YOUNG along with Hoosier pair, SOUTH BEND WASHINGTON (see Skylar) and HERITAGE CHRISTIAN. DAVIS has run the run to 54 games with a second round, 66-6 win over MANUEL, and their second toughest game of the year in round 3 with PIKE, 55-43. In the Land of Lincoln and home of the brave, they have another home, a second home if you will. A home of incredible talent dotting the rosters of these 4A teams set to do battle for the state crown. BOLINGBROOK has the young guns in ARIEL MASSENGALE and MORGAN TUCK among the talented RAIDER crew and KI KI JOHNSON and LINNAE HARPER leading the YOUNG DOLPHINS. Another young gun, WHITNEY HOLLOWAY leads MONTINI though the BRONCOS got somewhat bucked with the loss of MICHA JOHNSON. Sun Times POY TRICIA LISTON looks to lead FENWICK after averaging 28.2 a game this season. Three veteran forwards- SHONTE CLAY, LYNETTE HOLMES and JEANISE RANDOLPH all had great years in Illinois this season. CLAY, a VON STEUBEN Minnesota recruit, averaged 40 in the Chicago City playoffs including posting 49 on TAFT. HOLMES, a XAVIER recruit, led BOGAN to a City runner-up finish to YOUNG for a second year in a row while averaging 17 points and 7 rebounds a game. RANDOLPH averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds a game for TF NORTH before heading to CINCINNATI. Another underclassmen that made noise aside from the YOUNG DOLPHINS and RAIDERS is JEWELL LLOYD, who averaged 23 points, 11 rebounds and 5 steals for NILES WEST.

The Lonestar has many superstars both on the court and on the bench. OGWUMIKE, SIMS and GILBERT are just a few of the gunslingers and ALDRIDGE, LOMBARD and SELF-MORGAN among the top sheriffs trying to mosey in on a championship crown. JOE LOMBARD leads CANYON, a heavy favorite in 4A along with TIMBERVIEW, and has amasses over 1,000 wins in his 32 years. The EAGLES are 27-1 and it's only loss is to the aforementioned TIMBERVIEW, by 2. LOMBARD has won 13 state titles (5-3A, 2-4A and 6-1A) with 7 coming at CANYON. TOMMY ALDRIDGE, at 4A LONGVIEW, earlier this season became the 10th coach ever to reach 900 wins over his career. ALDRIDGE has 1 state title. CATHY SELF-MORGAN should soon be joining those gentleman in the 900 club in the late winter of '11-12 season as she sits at 841-190 currently. MORGAN has won 4 state titles including the PANTHERETTES last title in '03 and a trifecta at WESTSIDE while coaching her daughter among many.

The playoffs begin in Cali' this week with the big kahulas spread out among four classifications. The CIF should be called the WTF as in What r (the r is silent) They Freakin'thinkin'. You need three years in calculus, a gps, and Inspector Clouseau to figure out who's who and what is what. Well not really but POLY will be favored in D-1 while MATER DEI and BREA will brawl again in D-2 with ST. MARYS and HARVARD WESTLAKE the favorites in 3 and 4. Still there are another dozen-plus talented teams spread among those four classifications ready to shock the showboats.
