first, they have one senior decide not to play and another senior moves to Elma and now Heather Corral, sister of Ashley, goes down with what is thought to be a season ending ACL tear. It happened in the last three minutes of a game against Ursuline Academy at a tournament in Delaware.
Gonna be real tough to walk away with another state trophy this year. The streak might be over. We'll see.

The jinx must have followed Lindsey Levanen to Elma as she is also out for the season with an ACL tear.

yeah, I heard that and it really is a shame. Your senior year and you are out after a few games. The good news is that the ACL surgery is pretty successful nowadays. I completely popped mine way before they had anything but a cast as the solution. 23 years later I had the new surgery, but too much wear and tear to be considered life changing.
I hope Lindsey still gets an opportunity at some college somewhere.

What is it with women and ACL injuries....or knee injuries for that matter? This year alone Stanwood High School has 3 out with knee injuries.....and I have heard of many, many others including, now, this devistating loss ...it would be interesting to just see how wide spread knee injuries are this year preventing quality women frrom competing.....

Luckily for Lindsey, she has already signed with The Master's College, an NAIA I in Santa Clarita, CA.

There have been numerous studies on this - the two main issues that stand out are muscle strength (girls/women on the whole not strong enough to compensate for the stress sprint-cutting sports like basketball and soccer place on the knee) and the sketetal structure (girls/women have wider hips, thus increasing the angle of the femur/knee and placing more stress on the knee ligaments).

The female body type is different from males. What we need to be doing is encouraging girls to strengthen their hamstrings. Doing lunges, hamstring curls as well as their quadricep workouts will help prevent these tough injuries. Plus, the other injury girls suffer so much is ankle sprains which are mainly due to tired calves. Long seasons and practices increase the chances for these happening. Rest and recovery are so much more important to females due to the need for rest, good nutrition, and handling the menstrual cycle. Girls need to be taken good care of.
