Far East Movements number #1 hit, Like a G6, rose to number 1 on both itunes and Billboard and marked the first time an Asian-American band had ever hit numero uno. As pop usic expands it's horizons and Stern looks to Eurpe for expansion, it's only right that the girls high school industry does the same. Wether it's summer or winter, the best teams and those rising, look to new challenges against new foes in a distant land. Wether it's POTTERS and RIVERDALE BAPTIST both taking trips to Arizona and Cali among it's thousands of frequent flier miles or MATER DEI taking it to the nation's capital and Boston, these girls seek out the best the nation has to offer. I'm feelin' so fly like a G6. Like a G6.

(G6, btw, is of course, a reference to the Gulfstream V650 that can travel 7,000 miles and is considered the gold standard in aviation. The G6 is the fastest civil airplane known to man and can reach a cruise speed of .925 MACH or 704 MPH for those of you scoring at home.)

themamba looks at a holiday vacation or two and lists the top 25 tournaments across the land this Winter.

1.) NIKE TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS I PHOENIX DEC 18-22 >>> This gauntlet features 10 nationally ranked teams along with another dozen regionally ranked teams. MATER DEI CA, BOLINGBROOK ILL, RIVERDALE BAPTIST MD, MT. LEBANON PA, POLY CA, BREA CA, CHRIST THE KING NY, CLACKAMAS ORE, DILLARD FL and host ST. MARYS AZ. Add in CARONDELET, BELL JEFF, O'DOWD, LA JOLLA COUNTRY DAY, EDISON and DOUGHERTY VALLEY and you have a mini CIF function. ISSAQAH hails from Washington, CENTENNIAL and BISHOP GORMAN from Nevada and HIGHLANDS RANCH, REGIS and THUNDERRIDGE from the Rocky Mountain state. Hometown contenders SETON CATHOLIC and TOLLESON UNION are also competing in this battle in the desert. Simply loaded.

2.) TURKEY JAMM MEMPHIS NOV 26, 27 >>> Matchups are complete and this shmorgasbord has four games with nationally raked teams meeting each other. In November. HILLSBORO and ISABELLE HARRISON face Top 5 POTTERS HOUSE CHRISTIAN and then top 5 BOLINGBROOK the next day. Meanwhile, BOLINGBROOK is welcomed the first day by fellow top 5 MEMPHIS CENTRAL. Also day 1, WHITNEY YOUNG ILL takes on BRASHARRA GRAVES and CLARKSVILLE. Also POTTERS/ OVERTON, HOOVER/ OVERTON and CLARKSVILLE/ HOOVER. Save some room for dessert. Wow.

3.) CLASSIC IN THE COUNTRY BERLIN OH JAN 15-17 >>> Seven intriguing matchups headlined by BOLINGBROOK and Buckeye state champ MCKINLEY. TOLEDO START, another Buckeye nationally ranked team takes on two regionally ranked teams in MYRTLE BEACH SC from the South as well as Kentuck's DUPNT MANUEL. DUPONT MANUEL also plays TWISBURG who in turn plays MYRTLE BEACH. PRINCETON and MIDPARK will battle in a game between to Buckeye contenders and HATHAWAY BROWN will take on FAIRBORN in the other battle of Ohio's best. Four natinally ranked teams and another 4 regionally ranked teams in this battle in the BUCKEYE.

4.) CRESCENT BANK HOLIDAY INVITATIONAL MYRTLE BEACH SC DEC 19-23 >>> This slam dunk by the beach features four nationally ranked teams, all in the top 50 and another 3 regionally ranked teams. NORCROSS, Ga's AAAAA state champ, with it's star-studded cast is joined by South Carolina finalists GOOSE CREEK and SPRING VALLEY along with the Volunteer state's HILLSBORO. MYRTLE BEACH will stay home to play in this classic and welcomes SOUTH CENTRAL, a contender from North Carolina, FAYETTE COUNTY, a contender from the Peach State as well as TROY from Cali.

5.) BREEZY BISHOP SHOWCASE BALTIMORE MD DEC 10-12 >>> Charm City's classic has four nationally ranked teams, another 3 regionally ranked teams and 4 other defending state champions. NAZERETH and RIVERDALE BAPTIST headline this showcase with NAZERETH taking on nationally ranked ST. JOHNS DC and RIVERDALE BAPTIST, the top team in Maryland and nationally ranked, plays Maryland #2 and nationally ranked SPALDING. HOLY CROSS MD, regionally ranked and just outside the Super 75 takes on SOUTH SHORE NY and CARROLL PA. SPALDING will turn around and play regionally ranked BISHOP FORD NY. Regionally ranke SETON KEOUGH MD takes on DC champ HD WOODSON. CARROLL PA plays BISHOP FORD while host WESTERN and PEDDIE NJ join the field.

themambas Official Breezy Bishop Showcase Day 1 Preview >>> Maryland Winter '10 Championship

The Breezy Bishop Showcase begins today as does the Ioalani Classic in Honolulu with BREA and MEMPHIS CENTRAL but while the showcase on the islands can give you temps in the high 70's and a quartet of nationally recognized teams the Breezy comes in with over 10 household teams in 2010. themambas offers up a small snapshot of the teams battling on Day 1 at the Breezy with a lineup card for the showdown between Merrilyn's #1 and #2. Bantered about and scheduled last year, these two juggernauts never got to exchange pleasantries due to a modern day Ice Age. Well that ice has thawed but the fire still burns to see this matchup that features over a dozen college recruits and two of the best 75 teams in the country and arguably two of the best teams on the East Coast. Friday Night Lights will be bright tonight. Who shines?

4:30 @ WESTERN >>> M.A.T.H.S v HILL (PA)

The little charter school that could has kicked off the season winning a pair of games by a combined 137-33 margin. TREASURE JEFFERSON and CHRISTINA MITCHELL headline these new kids on the block who will enter the City league next year. HILL is 1-1 after coming off a 9-12 season.

5:30 @ POLY >>> POLY v LARGO

The LIONS of LARGO, 3A '10 final four finalists, return their own 'little engine that could' (and I might add) '...her way in the paint awfully easy for being 5'4' in senior JESSICA LYONS as well as senior vets 5'7 BRITTANY TAYLOR and 5'9 BRI WINSLOW. LYONS averaged 18.5 points and 5 assists a game last year while TAYLOR averaged 17.2 points a game last season. The LADY ENGINEERS lost 5 of their top 6 in the rotation from a year ago but do have guard T'NAYE KEBE back to lead a promising team. LARGO came up short with SENECA VALLEY, 69-65, in the state 3A semifinals. POLY stunned ABERDEEN last season in the regional semifinals and beat CITY in the regular season finale' so the ENGINEERS can step up with or without all the steam.

6:30 @ WESTERN >>> WESTERN v NATIONAL CHRISTIAN

The DOVES, are working with a somewhat new crew after a heartbreaking champioship loss at the RAC in March but should have a nice progression throughout the season when 6'2 BRIELLE WARD returns and the new pieces get more acclamated. WARD is the DOVES best and most vital player who gives them a precense in the post so it wall fall on veterans TENECIA SPENCE and RAIYA MCKNIGHT to lead the new DOVES into flight. SPENCE can drain the three and MCKNIGHT is an active slasher that makes things happen. Seniors RAVEN SMITH and TAYLOR CARTER shore up the backcourt and freshman Q MURRAY and MAIYA GIBSON give the DOVES nice depth on the perimeter. The DOVES also have 5'11 senior SHANIQUA HALL down low and sophomore KIEMMIE BOOTH to help while WARD mends. NATIONAL CHRISTIAN (2-5) lost to HD WOODSON, 56-15 and CARROLL, 42-40, did beat LIFE CENTER NJ, 35-34, in their last contest. NCA features 6'3 junior BRITTANY MURRAY.

7:30 @ POLY >>> FREDERICK v FOREST PARK (VA)

The CADETS (2-0) of FREDERICK can make a top 25 push with a win over one of Northern Virginia contenders FOREST PARK, who has a trio of prospects. The CADETS are lead by senior RACHEL JOHNSON (SHEPARD) who was voted All-Conference last year and averaged 16 points a game last season. JOHNSON scored 22 points and had 7 steals in the 73-32 CADET opening night victory over WILLIAMSPORT and a game-tying 3 to tie the game in regulation to extend game and gain win over THOMAS JOHNSON, 86-79, Tuesday night. LAUREN and JASMINE TOLSON return to the CADET core after achieving 2nd and 3rd tean conference honors last season. TOLSON scored 13 in the opener and JASMINE had 11 points, 7 assists and 5 steals in the win. The BRUINS of FOREST PARK (1-1) are coming off a tough loss to RIVERDALE but will be contenders in the Commonwealth, come March. BREYANA MASON, 5'8 sophomore who recieved honorable mention regionally as a freshman joins 5'8 junior guard LEXI CARPENTER and 5'9 senior TICHINA MITCHELL give the BRUINS a 3-headed monster in an era where sometimes just two would suffice. MASON is averaging 14 points a game while CARPENTER and MITCHELL are averaging 17 and 16 respectively. FREDERICK made a run last season and pushed the undefeated SENECA VALLEY EAGLE team to the limit in the regionals before WOLFE finished with 42. JOHNSON did score 23 in that game for the CADETS. FOREST PARK was 15-4 last season and return everyone from that squad.

8:30 @ WESTERN >>> CAPE HENRY COLLEGIATE (VA) v PEDDIE SCHOOL (NJ)

The FALCONS of PEDDIE are feathers of themselves a year ago when they boasted 4 D-1 prospects including Duke recruit HALEY PETERS. The FALCONS have been dominant among New Jersey Prep schools over the last two decades, winning 14 straight NJ Prep championships and beat both OAK HILL VA and Florida 6A state champ LAKE MARY, easily in the ESPN Rise Invitational last April. Not only must the FALCONS survive the loss of PETERS, ALEX SMITH, BRIDGITTE MCKNIGHT and point guard NEKOLE JAKSON but Coach Sean Casey stepped down after compling a 328-89 record to go with those 14 titles. 6'2 KARIMA GABRIEL (GEORGE WASHINGTON), an athletic fifth year grad student, returns to give the FALCONS some direction but shooter CLAIRE HEAUPTLE, is on the shelf tin mid-Jan'. CAPE HENRY finished 21-4 a year ago and have started this season 3-0, beating their opponents by a combined 230-58 margin. COLLEGIATE inherited two key transfers in 5'10 junior NAKAILA POLLARD and 5'8 junior ASHANTI KENNEDY. POLLARD, a PRINCESS ANNE transfer, is averaging 14.3 points and 4.7 rebounds this season while KENNEDY is averaging 12.7 points and 4.7 rebounds. 5'9 sophomore ALEXIS SMITH leads in rebounding with 5 a game and is second in scoring, averaging 13.7 a game. 5'3 junior point guard KHAJAE HESTER also returns after averaging 12 a game last season as a sophomore.

9:30 @ POLY >>> SPALDING v RIVERDALE BAPTIST

Speculation will no longer loom. 1,2,1,2. Sound check 1,2,1,2. The CRUSADERS come rolling through with a pair of big wins over some of NoVa's best and now look to take out their own state's second fiddle. The CAVS will need more than a solo performance to dethrone the Queen but the CRUSADERS musn't (sic) take these CAVALIER attitudes to lightly as these two East Coast powers collide. The CRUSADERS have been led early by their two senior guards, TYONNA WILLIAMS (TEMPLE) and LAUREN CHASE (UMBC) and now have KK ATKINSON working herself back to join senior guard DIANA LOGAN (GEORGETOWN) and junior post JENNIE SIMMS among the legion of CRUSADERS. 5'11 sophomore MAYA SINGLETON and 6'0 junior JONQUEL JONES gives the CRUSADERS added depth and talent up front and sophomore TASIA BUTLER lends versatality and length. Freshman AUTEONNA GILMORE was given early duty while visiting POTTERS HOUSE. CHASE has averaged 17 over the last 3 games while WILLIAMS has averaged 14.7 during that same span. SINGLETON is averaging 12.5 in the last two wins and ATKINSON is just working back to form and when healthy, arguably their most versatile and vital player. SPALDING started out with a pair of heavy-hitters, splitting with ST JOHNS and HOLY CROSS, and then took out middlewight PALLOTTI by 22. MAGGIE MORRISON (VANDERBILT) is back for her last run for that IAAM title after achieving All-Met honors as are fellow seniors SHERA SWINSON (BINGHAMPTON), GIRLIE CURTIS (AMERICAN) and BRE FREELAND. CAMILLE CALHOUN, the 5'11 sophomore wing who missed the ST JOHNS loss, leads the CAVS in scoring, averaging 11.5 a game. SWINSON is averaging 11 and MORRISON 10.5 a game. Junior RAVEN MAKINS returns and is averaging 7 game and sophomore ALEAH EPPS is averaging 6.3. RACHEL GRIFFITH stepped versus ST. JOHNS, scoring 11 points and three key jumpers. Should be an excellent marquee matchup of two of our most finest.

The board eerily silent considering last night's results at the BREEZY. OT
thriller between 2 of MARYLAND'S finest . Anyone at THAT game? what's the 411?

I tweeted the entire game @Hoopgurlz:D ..even the bad officiating...you don't need a twitter account to check the timeline

BTW: Nice win for Robert E. Lee over a tough Baltimore-Poly..Muff Mickens dropped a triple-double..nice to see a VA public school play with a shot clock in a real game.

Lee goes against South Shore from Brooklyn tomorrow and Carroll(PA)-Holy Cross tips off at 3

Breezy has the place to be...no need to travel to exotic locales to find some bump. If you are a top ranked team in the DMV and you ain't trying to get in it next year you might want to check yourself.

The Western crew has made this a national level event and the word is out on the street that top teams from the Midwest are already lining up for next year.

Nice Article for the Cadets. A few corrections Allen is 5'7 and Clark 6'0 at best while Rowser is a VERY long 5'9. Not that big a deal; but she , Rowser, seems to get shorted and overlooked often on this board. ( her name not highlighted in said article) It's interesting as she is the # 1 team's best and only 1ST TEAM ALL WCAC performer. That's okay though.
At least the local tv. station got it right naming her Athlete Of The Week .

Sir (or madam),

Was it really necessary to list what you claim are the proper heights for the other girls in order to hype your obvious favorite, Rowser? That seems a little nitpicky/fuss budgety at best. Miss Rowser's talents are obvious, and can stand on their own without you subtly tearing down other players to make your point. Unless you're these young ladies' pediatrician, you can only have a general idea how tall they really are, and who cares, anyway, really? Jeez.

Big picture, congrats to Miss Rowser for her player of the week honors, and let's hope there's more to come.

My bad. The listing of those heights was meant to illustrate that Miss Rowser gets "shorted" both figuratively and literally on this board. And if her talents can stand on their own, certainly the others can too . If listing what I believe are the real heights is tearing these players down, I sincerely apologize. All three of those SJC teammates are excellent players whatever their height. Their play is critical to the Cadets continued success.

I see your point, but try not to get to hung up on players being shorted on this forum. Bloggers don't get the chance to see every player all the time and often don't cover a lot of players (not only SJC) who are definitely worth mentioning and deserve the recognition. I'd avoid challening height, cause it doesn't change talent. Rowser is good and just needs to keep doing her thing....cause when it REALLY counts, she will be noticed by the folks that REALLY matter.
