Traditionally, sports fans, the MD/DC/VA region has never been known for its true centers. And in fact, THIS crop of posts is rather thin, in comparison to the crops at the other four position.
As well, this is the position, on the girls side AND the boys side, that takes so long to develop--most top posts don't reach full development before their junior years in college!
When we looked at who our top posts were going to be, we put a premium on raw talent to be developed, and on what we thought we would be able to do with WHOEVER if we did skill development with them.
By the way, we've heard of about 5-6 other centers, who we haven't seen yet, who would probably be considered; but here's the baker's dozen we came up with, regardless of class, in our MD/DC/VA region, to anchor the middle (in alphabetical order):
1. Stephanie Anya, 6'2", 2009, Academy of the Holy Cross/Kensington, Md.;
2. Kylie Beecher, 6'3", 2008, Hidden Valley/Roanoke, Va. (committed to South Carolina);
3. Marissa Brock, 6'1", 2010, St. John's College/Washington, D.C.;
4. Simone Egwu, 6'2", 2009, Arundel/Gambrills, Md.;
5. Mary Grace Jay, 6'1", 2008, Madison/Vienna, Va.;
6. Alison Johnson, 6'3", 2008, Marshall/Falls Church, Va.;
7. Jeniece Johnson, 6'5", 2008, H.D. Woodson/Washington, D.C.;
8. Maya Louis, 6'4", 2010, St. John's College/Washington, D.C.;
9. Bativa Owens, 6'0", 2009, Maury/Norfolk, Va.;
10. Jazmin Pitts, 6'1", 2010, Cosby/Richmond, Va.;
11. Chalysa Shegog, 6'4", 2008, Brooke Point/Stafford, Va. (committed to North Carolina);
12. Azania Stewart, 6'4", 2008, Notre Dame Academy/Middleburg, Va.;
13. Sheronne Vails, 6'3", 2010, Arundel/Gambrills, Md.
