What's that rising freshman? I've enjoyed seeing the youngins at BMac's tourney & around the few younger-kid tourneys I've been to so far, but I'm not sure with these SupeŽ '08-10's we have room for 'em yet...maybe after July! Do you have any imparticular that you feel should be checked out??:)

There are a couple of rising frosh over at HC that deserve a glance and my personal fave is Sade Barber at TCW

Hayfield has some rising freshman that play on the Cardinal 14s that just may help that squad climb back up the Patriot District

What ABOUT the class of 2011?

This forum is about the new and upcoming players this fall. About who these new kids are and what their game is. Whose the best of them all and who is on the borderline. Everything you guys know about these new rising freshman! Oh yea..I completely agree on the comment made previously by hd27!

I think we Vets are used to people coming in sideways trying to retrieve the buzz vs creating it. He was just asking you to list who you have in mind for the thread.
On another note no one has listed positions or much of anything else other than the names & a few schools that is hard to follow.

ok...i really dont know what im doing.lol This is my first thread I have opened up. But thanks for the info...so next time I start a thread, I will know a little more. I guess this thread can be closed...unless you guys still want to talk about this subject...?

I think it's an interesting read if we can get all the info on the kids, like HS & summer teams, Position, and strengths.
But IH, didn't you have 1 or 2 youngins we should be looking & listening out for? I thought I saw you mention something or someone when we were in our old Neighborhood...

The Real Basketball Report feels that this 2007 rising-freshman class of the MD/DC/VA region is W-A-A-A-Y sub-standard so far, as a whole AND individually, compared to the immediate-D.C. area's rising-freshman class of 2001, which is the best rising-freshman class in the history of the the MD/DC/VA region, and one of the best ever in the country. However, these are the 2007 thirteen who the RBR is keeping a sharp eye on, right this minute (in alphabetical order, with height, probable current club team, and upcoming high school-if known):

1. Achiri Ade, 5'11", Baltimore Stars, Western/Baltimore, Md.;
2. Simone Antwi, 5'11", Fairfax Stars;
3. Sade Barber, 5'5", Lady Majic, T.C. Williams/Alexandria, Va.;
4. Akilah Bethel, 5'11", Maryland Waves, Academy of the Holy Cross/Kensington, Md.;
5. Kalia Johnson, 5'9", U-Turn Warriors (the RBR has her as the #1-ranked girl in this class, in the MD/DC/VA region);
6. Tiffany Minor, 5'10", Team Select;
7. Destiny Shearin, 5'11", Team Unique, Bishop O'Connell/Arlington, Va.;
8. Zora Stephenson, 5'9", Lady Neptunes, Oakton/Vienna, Va.;
9. Linda Stepney, 5'5", Norfolk Express;
10. Sherae Swinson, 5'11", Maryland Waves, Archbishop Spalding/Annapolis, Md.;
11. Ge'Shawna White, 6'0", Lady Neptunes;
12. Elizabeth Williams, 6'2", Lady Neptunes;
13. Jeanne-Marie Wilson, 5'7", Team Unique, Wise/Upper Marlboro, Md.

By the way, sports fans, 2001 was the second year of the Real Basketball Report, and we only evaluated and ranked middle-school and high-school girls in the immediate D.C. area back then; we began evaluating and ranking girls in the entire MD/DC/VA region the following year.
Here were the top ten girls, as were ranked by the RBR, in that 2001 rising-freshman class (in alphabetical order, with height at the time/height coming out of high school, club team at the time/club team coming out of high school, high school as 9th-graders//graduating high school, highest honors coming out of high school, and college signed with):

1. Shanay Baker-Brice - 5'4"/5'5" - Maryland Sparks - Theodore Roosevelt/Washington, D.C. - All-Star Girls Report 2005-class top-50 - Towson;
2. Marissa Coleman - 6'0"/6'1" - D.C. Lady Panthers/Fairfax Stars - St. John's College/Washington, D.C. - McDonald's All-American/USA Basketball - Maryland;
3. Kendra King - 5'11"/6'0" - Fairfax Stars - Paul VI/Fairfax, Va. - All-Star Girls Report 2005-class top-125 - Marshall;
4. Yolanda Lavender - 5'8"/5'9" - Maryland Sparks/Team Unique - Forestville/Forestville, Md.//Riverdale Baptist/Upper Marlboro, Md.//Archbishop Carroll/Washington, D.C. - WBCA All-American/USA Basketball - Wake Forest;
5. Lyndra Littles - 5'11"/6'0" - Team Unique - Archbishop Carroll/Washington, D.C. - All-Game Sports All-American - Virginia;
6. Iman McFarland - 6'2"/6'2" - Team Unique/D.C. Nike Select - Elizabeth Seton/Bladensburg, Md.//Bishop McNamara/Forestville, Md. - McDonald's All-American/USA Basketball - North Carolina;
7. Brittany Mitch - 6'0"/6'1" - Fairfax Stars - The Bullis School/Potomac, Md.//St. John's College/Washington, D.C. - McDonald's All-American/USA Basketball - Duke;
8. Abby Robertson - 6'1"/6'3" - Fairfax Stars - Lake Braddock/Springfield, Va. - All-Star Girls Report 2005-class top-50/USA Basketball - Virginia;
9. Katrina Wheeler - 6'2"/6'3" - Maryland Sparks - Theodore Roosevelt/Washington, D.C. - McDonald's All-American/USA Basketball - Georgetown;
10. Teisha Womack - 6'1"/6'2" - Team Unique - Archbishop Carroll/Washington, D.C. - All-Star Girls Report 2005-class top-100 - Seton Hall.

Sports fans, each of these ten girls was DESTINED to get some type of national accolade, and it was clear to the trained eye who saw each one when she was a rising-freshman.
This 2007 class ain't bad--so far, on a national level--but the RBR doesn't see destined national accolades yet, for any of the thirteen girls, like you saw it for every one of the ten in that 2001 class, when each one was a rising-freshman.
The RBR feels that we should all check back in with this 2007 rising-freshman class when they're all rising-juniors...

tm4, the IH isn't quite sure what you're referring to, right this minute--the IH is typing this post from the "Relax Room", while working with an Amaretto & Orange Juice-over several ice cubes, with some '60's Miles Davis in the background--but: 1. if you're referring to The Bishop, the answer is yes, and; 2. the IH did post a little ways back, on another thread, that the RBR's 2011-Class Top-Three was, in this order, Kalia, Destiny, and Elizabeth...

They will be competing against each other for several years as I believe Lauren will be attending Holy Cross. Also, Shanel (if i'm spelling it wrong my bad) last name i forget from Gwynn Park MS championship team going to ?? SJC maybe. The WCAC seems to be loading up again with a crop of PGs....!!

Ashley Edmond 5'4" Stafford Express. Smooth player can beat you with the 3 ball, pull up J or drive to the basket. Good ball handler and defender.

Erin Edmond 5'2" Stafford Express. Explosive athlete/leaper. Tremendous defender, who will disrupt your offense with steals and deflections. Looks to take the big shot. These twins suffer from playing with a program that has backed out of Nationals 2 years in a row. They play with a refuse to lose attitude and should help Riverbend continue it's recent tradition of excellent guard play.

Joi Caracciolo 6'1" PW Virginians. Still growing. Has played up her entire AAU career. Is in the process of growing athletically into her body. Has a feel for shot blocking and a good shot from about 10-12 feet. Will be picking up where her sister left off at Stonewall Jackson.

why do people do this, this kid goes left and right with ease, shoots the 3, sees the floor but all you can quote is 'she plays d2 and doesn't play D'. I watched this kid play with 93 FFS (D-1) and she was clearly the best player on the floor, hoopscoop had her rated second best in her class, she played in a college showcase with 92 FFS (D-1) and was the best guard on the floor. This was all as a rising 8th grader. Her FFS coached raved about her talent but then she left the program and then its like she doesn't play D, she undisciplined, ghetto. The girl is not in high school yet whatever deficiencies she has I'm sure with her present skill set she will improve and be great. Stop looking for something negative to say when there are so many positives.

I would have to say that the class of 2011 may turn out to be one of the most talented classes ever. I have been coaching at this age group for 6 years and I have seen all of the players mentioned here. All of them can play. The funny thing is that there also 15-20 girls in the class of 2011 not mentioned here who are as good (if not better) than some of the girls on the list. So, it is going to be a very fun and interesting 4 years in watching all of these girls develop.

I would agree, Michael...a very deep class! Not sure if it truly has the impact players, but its deep. And yes...the list is curious--seems to be drawn from only a few sources. There are several players mentioned i wouldnt have put there, and MANY missing, at every position. Hyping rising freshman is a dangerous thing to do...unless you're committed to watching a LOT of AAU 13U/14U games.....lol

and to bigmac's post....simone IS a good player, likely to do well in HS....BUT, apples to apples, when JT was finishing her 8th grade season (as all these 20011s are doing), she dropped 53 in a 56-55 win for her private school league tournament. Suffice it to say there are NO JT's in the 2011 mix....period. :D

We seem to be naming most of the 93's that can play. The Lady Majic had 11 before they went there separate ways.

Jessica Long (St.Mary's Ryken)
Brittany Taylor ?
Courtney Warren (The Potomac School)
Jessica Lyons (Largo)

Cierra, Channel, Sade, Shannen, Amanda, Taylor and Linnel were named.

Don't leave out the Vogues. Give some love for the best record of any 93's in this area from 10U thru 13U. The Center has to be the best in this area, she dropped 20 or more on everybody.

why do people do this, this kid goes left and right with ease, shoots the 3, sees the floor but all you can quote is 'she plays d2 and doesn't play D'.

I agree with the negativity. We should always be positive when talking about these girls. But let's be realistic......we're talking basketball. No one is perfect. I see nothing wrong with commenting on things that a player can improve upon. If you are going to get better at your game, you better know your weaknesses! and I see nothing wrong about discussing it. We know these girls got game.

Lauren Chase - I believe that she is going to be a joy to look at the season with holy cross.
I saw her play at the best of maryland and she just took my breath away. This little girl is really the truth.

I have watched Ms. Chase play AAU for years and coached against her. She is the truth! It will be interesting to see how Holy Cross manages things. They brought 2 other guards in the class with Lauren and they have another very good guard who will be a 10th grader this year. 3 "lead" guards in two classes is going to be an blessing and a curse.

Ms. Chase was in the original list posted on 6/29....this thread is way too long and as we get more newbies arriving for the 2007-2008 season I am sure they will not read the entire thread. So, I am going to lock the thread. We will start a new thread to discuss the progress of these young freshmen when the HS season starts...right now let's allow them to get through the rigors of adjusting to high school academically and socially.
