Baltimore represents on Saturday the 14 as the area takes 6 of 8 STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS with the city leading the way with 5 titles and FALLSTON bringing one to HARFORD, the area set a bit of a mandate.
Also out in Cumberland, in a not-so-grand finale' with the all important league finals finished. but a nice showcase among very competitive teams, KEOUGH and ST. FRANCES beat their counterparts to the south, ELIZABETH SETON and GOOD COUNSEL, with SETON KEOUGH taking the BISHOP WALSH CHAMPIONSHIP. KEOUGH came on strong at the end and finished with a bang, taking the IAAM title and the WALSH. The GATORS went 3-1 against some very competitive teams in TEXAS during the holidays including beating sweet 16 TEXAS 5A NAAMAN FOREST among others. The GATORS also had a tough one-point loss to nationally top 10 ranked ARCHBISHOP CARROLL of PENNSYLVANIA, who has lost only once this year. ST. FRANCES closes out a successful campaign with a win over the WCAC champ, GOOD COUNSEL by 9, 64-55. Only 3 losses for the PANTHERS with one coming in the regular seasom to top 10 prep school, the HUN school in JERSEY, the IAAM title game and an overtime BISHOP WALSH semifinal game to ELIZABETH SETON. They do have 2 impressive victories over KEOUGH, another against ARUNDEL and a run away stomp over CITY. Nice finish for the IAAM powers and a particularly strong finish from AYSA BUSSIE, who completes a fine career at KEOUGH. GOOD COUNSEL accomplished their number 1 mission in winning the WCAC with only 2 losses before running into the buzzsaw known as WOODSON and dropping two to CHARM CITY IAAM powers KEOUGH and ST. FRANCES. Impressive feat winning the regular season title and the tourney title along with a very impressive, if possible, 5 point defeat to the hands of RIVERDALE. Great seasons by ELIZABETH SETON and HOLY CROSS as well.
HARLEE and BUSSIE make it a two girl race for the CHARM CITY POY with their outstanding finishes.
HOLEHOUSE as mentioned had one of the most impactful seasons as a freshman, but FISHER also stepped up big in the shocker.
ROOSEVELT showed what constant pressure is to ARUNDEL and played and showed the poise and reserverance of true champions. The unwavering leadership of APPLEWHITE and HALL showed in their journey to title number four for the seniors.
LOGAN stepped up big, now what's the next logical step ? TAFT stepped up, so what's the next logical step ?
BARKSDALE came up big for CITY. The bigs came up big for CITY.
Nice effort from OLIVER at RIVER HILL to keep the HAWKS in it.
More free throws than field goals in 1A ?
Congrats to the champs; ELEANOR ROOSEVELT, FALLSTON, CITY and DIGITAL HARBOR. ROSY' on it's fifth straight and the CHARM CITY contingent on it's first piece of hardware.
Title recap from yesterday. Just the facts on the 9 titles handed out yesterday (boys & girls, the BISHOP WALSH).
