Anyone know why she's attempting to leave? She and her father have a long history with Diane Lewis.

Interesting that the article states that Coach Lewis says there may be an "eligibility problem" if she transfers. There shouldn't be a problem if she lives within the Hayfield boundaries or has some other legitimate reason to be pupil placed at Hayfield. There's no such thing as "establishing your eligibility" tied to a particular school. You have 8 semesters (4 years) of VHSL high school eligibility regardless of where you play, so unless she's already used that up, there shouldn't be an issue. The exception to that rule is if you play as an eighth grader, which Fairfax County doesn't allow, but Alexandria City schools do. In that case, you have 5 years (10 semesters) of eligibility. Of course, if she did not live in the Hayfield district and did not go through proper channels to get pupil placed there, it would be a problem. Based on the tone of the article, it sounds like she's trying to do it all above board.

It sounds like the Edison Coach and Administration are only concerned about her "not being eligible at another school". It also appears to be sour grapes, {if she can't play here...then we'll make sure she can't play anywhere else or at least let it be known}. I would think instead of throwing comments around in the press like that, they would either not commented or given a more responsible response.

1. It sounds to the IH that Adria is still formally at Edison, if the Edison coach is talking about the impending transfer in the press.
2. Which means that the Hayfield people cannot comment on it whatsoever, because that would constitute recruiting, which is against the law over there.
3. The IH sees Coach Lewis's "statement" as a standard response to any number of questions that could have been asked by the article's writer.
4. This "info" about Adria has been on the street for at least a month. When was Coach Lewis interviewed and the article written? Because it was published on June 16, the last day of school over there...

Based on the assumption that several of Adria's neighbors go to Hayfield and not nearby Edison--Adria's base school is Hayfield and she pupil placed(requested reassignment) to Edison. From my own experience, to pupil place, you must submit an application for renewal annually. So she is not an Edison student until that paper work is approved. Because it will be her senior year I don't see her as not getting it approved but its still red tape nonetheless. That being said yesterday, the 18th was the last day of school not the 16th. I am not clear on the eligibilty rules but being that Hayfield is her base school I don't see it being an issue of her being allowed to play

You are correct that pupil placements have to be redone every year. However, the paperwork was due at least six weeks ago, and the vast majority of kids knew whether their placement was renewed before the end of the year yesterday. That having been said, if there's a reason a student asks that a placement not be renewed and that they be allowed to return to their base school, I suppose that could take longer, depending on the reason for the original pupil placement. I suppose if you were pupil placed in order to get an IB degree and you suddenly decided in your senior year that you didn't want an IB diploma, I expect the powers that be might encourage you to think carefully before making that change. Obviously, I have no idea where Ms. Crawford lives or what her situation is. All I know is that she can flat out PLAY and that she's fun to watch, so good luck to her wherever uniform she wears next season.

The real question is why would she leave a great program like Edison for a struggling one like Hayfield. Nothing against Coach Carlock but Coach Lewis has had a lot of success at Edison and I can't think of any reasons why she would want to leave.

Interesting enough that's not a bad thought but how would she fit in with either one of those teams? Notre Dame is loaded in the post and already has a pretty good 3 guard in Kristen Coles. RB supposedly (don't want to start rumors) have the twins from National Christian transfering in to support Miss Franklin and crew. WCAC rules won't allow juniors and seniors to transfer in without sitting out 1 year so Holy Cross is out. If she could go to any school of her choice what would be the ideal situation for her and the team she chose?

Why would she not be eligible to play if she goes to Hayfield? She hasn't used up her 8 semesters of eligibility and it sounds like she's going to be there legitimately, so there shouldn't be a problem. Kids transfer all the time and keep their eligibility as long as they're there "legally". There was a male player a couple of years ago at a school that shall remain nameless. He was pupil placed there for a legitimate reason, but decided he'd rather attend his base school as a senior (no one ever said why, but there's some thought he had a falling out with the coach after his junior season). He transferred back to his base school and was a starter there as a senior. Not sure why this would be any different.

Long history is not always amicable history. Dad doesn't coach @ Edison anymore. Same year he left, she left Lewis' AAU team for FFS. Perhaps just a cowinkeydink.
Someone already stated that she lives in Hayfield's boundaries. She must've been allowed @ Edison because of Dad. Edison still has Clayton and untapped bench strength but no Doreena. Hayfield is rebuilding.
...a girl with talent could really shine over there.
What do ya got to loose now that Edison is no shoe-in for a state run ?
I say let the kid have her senior year with her block pals. Childhood is too short as it is.
