I have been counseled many times about bringing up AAU stuff on this board, but this has been on my mind all week,

AAU after making some crazy decisions and rule changes on the girls side, has decided to shut down there message board, because of all the heat they got for the changes and how they went about it while in mexico,
they have a conference in cancun mexico, they vote on rule change some that made NO sense, then they come back state side and have to have a phone con call to re-vote on things that were to be taken care of in mexico,
after the con call that took place this past sunday, on monday they shut down the messge board,

here is what I got when I tried to go there,

AAU Girls Basketball no longer has a message board.
We apologize for any inconvenience

OK, done venting, thank you for allowing me to vent,

AAU, not sure what they are going to do for ages 15 and up. That age group now focuses more on getting college exposure then playing for a national championship. Right or wrong the culture has changed.

Semp first why would someone counsel you for bringing up girls basketball on a girls basketball website? Unless you are trying to promote another site.

I had thought that AAU was on it's last leg a couple years ago, but then I wasn't sure with all off the attention HG's gave the U-15 Nationals I thought maybe it was on the rise again. Many inherent problems with the scene as it is that as LB has stated hasn't changed with the times.

For the youngsters;

AAU National locations were not central enough.

Rules not being enforced allowing "super teams" to water down the pool.

Too long and costly during struggling times.

For the hs aged crew;

Too many other options that don't have all of these qualifiers.

To their credit they tried to add grade based Nationals but Ray Charles could have seen that wasn't going to work, and they were trying to compete against themselves with that as with the D2 Nationals.

Then there was the change in age classification which was based on someone in Indiana saying that their school system used July 1st to determine a kids grade and their boys using a completely different system. Teams splintered players moved down in age groups with an unfair advantage, players in most of the country not playing with their age groups ect.

AAU will continue because they have so their hands in so many other things with gbb not being its primary revenue source, but for gbb I think they should remain focused on their primary market, elementary & middle schoolers and leave the hs stuff to the grown-ups.

I get counsel by LB, all in fun,:D

But you are right, they are ruining it for the younger age groups, and the locations are not that great, and when you go see MICKEY, he has his hand in your pockets, for 9 days, someone needs to do something for the younger age groups, have a nice tournament in a nice place, make it some kind of national style tourney and give it time and it will grow as AAU takes a nose dive,
