Speedy recovery Angel.

I really hope someone solves the ACL issue soon. There are far too many injuries in recent years.

Park the ankle braces if you don't need them.

Clearly, there is a serious problem with ACL injuries in women's sports, and particularly women's basketball. One of the players on my high school team didn't really get interested until sixth or seventh grade, at which point the dad took to someone who knew something (doctor or physical therapist, I'm not sure), and had them look at her in terms of risk of injury if she played basketball. They told him there was nothing in the way her knees bent, etc., that indicated a serious risk of injury, and so she started to play seriously.

But obviously, there are girls whose anatomy is not necessarily suited to basketball, and they must spend more time in the weight room and working on specific conditioning before they really get serious.

Of course, "physicals" are required by a lot of high schools, but they have nothing to do with the real demands on the girls who play basketball. Maybe it would make sense to have a more rigorous examination of middle school girls who are thinking about being basketball players. Better to find out then rather than after two ACLs ...

Great point - my friend is a sports ortho and has done a ton of ACLs, more from soccer but definitely a lot from basketball - he said it is to do with balance and good mechanics. Those who over pronate or knee turns in and drops are at a higher risk, so he said it is important to have good biomechanics and balance to land when you're hit.

Whitney Houston at Colorado tore her ACL also.

It is amazing to me that we haven't made better progress against this injury.

I bet many doctors would suggest more time training proper body mechanics than effective skill training. How many coaches teach proper body position in making cuts, how to plant your leg and push with the proper distribution of your weight, or how to jump and land properly.

Stronger bodies, moving faster, same ligaments and if poor or untaught mechanics perhaps that is one of the causes. These kids are playing at such a fast pace of play in the modern game.
