Houston Angels Select 12U & Houston Angels 7th GB did it again!
Both team claims the championships in 13U and 12U Division.
Houston Angels Select 12U Won the 13U/8th Grade Championships at the University of Houston 1st Annual Houston Invitational. Beat the favorite 13U Coast 2 Coast, Houston HotShots and Houston Lightning the previous Spring Branch Lightning that represented Gulf District in last years DII Nationals. The first meeting of this 2 teams was in late May 2007 at the Gulf District AAU Qualifiers where they split 1-1. This time around the Houston Angels Select beat them convincingly 46-18. They are boiling hot ready to explode and represent the big H-town Texas in Rochester, Minnesota (DI Nationals)

Sim,
Do you think they don't have a chance to win at a national level? I know you've been around the circuit for sometime and I just want to get your honest opinion. If they don't have it, what do you think they are missing and needed to add to win it? When did you see them last? They picked up another player that I think would really helped them get there. Have you heard about a kid name Courtney? Don't know the last name yet, but you've got to see them play now. I'll give you an update.
On another note... I overheard one of the parents of their younger player is considering to make a move and play for the Houston Insiders 12U. What's the scoop? I've heard the parents really like for their daughter to play for Coach "D". Let me know about the reality of that. PM me...

To be perfectly honest with you I want you guys to do well because it helps the state, the gulf and especially the city because to be perfectly honest with you our talent is second to none. I was only trying to tell you that other super teams from here, Herbs Texas Blazers was killing everyone at 12 and got blown at nationals. My oldest daughter played on the best 13u teams, Hotshots, I have seen in my 7 years from Houston and they were beating some of the top 15s and 16s in the city and again they got blown, the Paris sisters. It's not the same especially when you run across teams that pick up the top kids from 2,3 or even 4 states. As far as one of the younger kids leaving and playing for us, I have no knowledge however I feel my daughter is one of the best guards to ever come out of Houston, she played 14u when she was 12 and held her on against all city players back then. She played for the man for 6 years and I wouldn't change a thing.

Thanks! for the info. Just wanted to confirm if any of the parents ever approach either you or coach "D". If this ever happen, that family is one of the great supporter of their organization. I will leave it at that.

Let me chime in concerning the national level. Not only do you have teams hand picking players from all over but you have some college caliber coaches coaching these teams which makes a BIG difference. Scouting is a must during the AAU national championship. One of the coaches will have to sacrifice by missing their own games to be a step ahead of the next opponents. At the 12U age, if your girls are not ready to play physical (and I mean physical) then get ready to pack your bags early. Every year it seems that the most physical/intimidating team wins the championship. The referees, for what I've seen the last 4 years, let the girls play which promotes these physical teams going deep into the tournament. This doesn't mean they're the most talented, what so ever.
Good luck, we're pulling for you!

I wish I can do that.... but I am about 65% certain about the young guard's parents wanting to move their daughter to play for coach "D". They have emailed inquiring about coach but I accidentally deleted it. Anyway, how's your 12U team doing. If they email me again, will you all need another guard or will take another guard if not this year maybe for next year? Give me a contact number for both you and coach "D"

Sid what is your problem? If you read the board more and would not take things out of context you would know the reason I made that statement and that was because people were complaining about non HS kids getting run. Should I be excited if some of your players wanted to jump ship, my man, that ain't me. You have me confused with the Hotshots or Elite coaches, I could care less. We take what we get, I don't run up behind parents telling them how great their kids are and all the other BS that goes along with recruiting. we have a system and try to get kids who fit into that system but the important thing is giving the kids a chance to show their skills so they can go to school free. Now since no one on the Angels seem to know Sid Carter it would be safe to assume you are a coach or parent and that's cool if you want to stay anonymous.

Simmie....Simmie... I have no problems with you at all. You are one of my best sources. I just happened to see that post from another board and I really know you care about the kids more than anything else. So if you think I am mocking you. I am not. I believe in you all program and the coaches behind it. I am actually kind of glad if those girls ends up with you, because I know they will be taken cared of will be guided the right way rather than getting used and ending into some other programs in the city. I am not saying that the Angels Org. is not good, but other people think of other options. Again no relation what so ever with the Angels. I am not a coach or a parent, just a fan of the game. We're COOL Sim and I am sorry if I offended you. Don't mean it that way. TTYL....:)

Sid I was hoping you were my antagonist. It's all good buddy and I remember you talking about some kids who played with NCI like Page who played a couple of years with us. I wasn't offended, I like the back and forth buddy and we are cool.

Sim,
You were right. They lost all their pool games. My observation was they were not ready. They will have a better chance next year if Winslow can keep the same girls and keep on working with them for one more year.

I'm headed back to Houston to watch the other Houston Angels team playing in Cy-Fair Adidas Classic tournament this coming week. I did check the schedule and they do not have a 12U pool. I see the younger Houston Angels with half the team in 5th and 6th in the 14U. I am sure they will get crashed.

As Low B said before... this time they may need divine intervention.:(

Actually what's going to happen is it will get worse, The athleticism will catch up, as will the skill level with most players and trust me on this, many of the superstars at 12 pan out at 13 & 14. Watch the ypunger ages, watch the parents going crazy at 10 and have the hush mouth at 13 because really if you don't know, you don't know. Girls basketball is funny and like I told you pressing a team the whole game when you are up by 40 shows little character and class and what goes around comes around. Again you all have some good players but trying to keep that team together will be almost impossible because
1.Egos
2. Playing time
3. Leeches attacking you, your coaches or Ricky himself saying he is about his daughter.
I have been there and I know what I am talking about and trust me. Game is game, whether it's hanging on the street doing whatever, insider trading or trying to destroy someones squad.

There's been a lot of "hoopla" about JH AAU teams of late. One from the Houston area, 12U Houston Angels, was one of them. Well, it looks like they had a rough time in pool play at Nationals this past weekend. The link below will take you to the results of pool play, see Pool H.

You must not like the Houston Angels.... any grudges? They played hard and qualified to get there. WIN or LOOSE you all should be proud of these young girls. Overhyped so what? Being able to represent the Gulf at a national level means a lot to these girls. I really wished all the Texas teams have gone deeper to the tournaments. To the Texas teams, Houston Lightning 94, HTX Fire, Texas Ankle Breakers and Houston Angels, please hold your head up, because not everyone can accomplish what you all did. I AM PROUD OF YOU ALL!

I have nothing against them but did have a problem with endless promoting of them. Actually I was hoping for their success being from the Gulf region so don't get that mixed up with my posts regarding updates on the Angels. It wasn't a problem for you to hype them up on several websites for months but now it's a problem if I post their results from the AAU National Championship?

Considering it's the 1st year of the Houston Angels organization. Making it to the national level was indeed a big accomplisment for the girls on that team. If that's not something you can be proud of... you must have a really good team and since you're from Texas, I will support your team totally. and as for Simmie. Regarding pressing all game. It just happened that they have lost games prior to that tournament that they were leading and just blew it out. My guess is that and also in defense of the coach. He probably just don't want that to happen again and trying to teach them how to close a game in preparation for nationals. Because what you practice is how you will play, and he probably did not want that to happen at the national level. Which I think everyone would agree that if you're down by 20 or more at the national level. I don't think coaches there will give you a break and let you catch up. Just my 2 cents.... Were cool Sim..

Sid that makes no sense and it's classless. If you had a kid and someone was doing that to them, how would you feel. In our 6 years, we have been one of the teams in Houston, in fact only one of two who has one a National Championship without a team full of signed seniors and we have NEVER done anything like that. This is what's wrong with sports and adults think that is big stuff however these are young ladies and how would you feel if it was your daughter? This is what has helped kill AAU in the area and why Prime Time is striving. To each his own, however again that makes no sense at all.
