Nice weekend of basketball as 18 varsity squads battled it out for the championship. In the end the top two teams came out of the same 5 team pool as Inglemoor defeated Lake Stevens 60-52. Inglemoor lost only once the entire tournament, to finish 8-1, falling to Redmond during pool play. Lake Stevens lost only twice, both times to Inglemoor and Redmond lost only twice, going 5-2, losing both of their contests with Lake Stevens. Woodinville put on a strong showing going 7-1, losing to Lake Stevens in the semis and Eastlake rounded out the top 4 going 5-3 overall, losing to Inglemoor in the other semi final. Meadowdale and Lake Washington also looked strong during the weekend.

Other schools represented were Kamiak, Skyline, Issaquah, Monroe, Bothell, Holy Names, Cascade, Lynnwood, Vallivue (ID), Bainbridge and Edmonds Woodway

Was a solid tournament indeed. Couple of things to follow up. Meadowdale got Woodinville in the quarterfinal and then lost to Lake Stevens in a great game in the semi.

Also, can every team in KINGCO shoot the basketball or ? Each team there could flat out shoot the pill---or had a lot of girls who could. Impressive display.

Seems like that league will be WIDE open with Lake Washington, Eastlake and Ballard improved...and Roosevelt, Inglemoor and Redmond perhaps the front runners?!

Any thoughts there?

While Redmond should improve, I would hesitate to announce it as a front runner. They will probably be included in the much improved category though. The team only won four games during the season and only beat Juanita twice during KingCo play last season. Although they will add a talented incoming sophomore class, they also will lose some senior leadership and scoring.

I also think that Roosevelt will fall from the top...not that they will be bad, but they will not dominate as they did last year. Too many power seniors gone from last year.

Don't count Garfield out, remember they finished one game from state last season. Although they lost solid seniors they are returning two sophomores who spent plenty of time on the court as freshmen, one started every game...the other started most. In addition they will gain size with the freshman class, which is something that they were lacking last year.
Just my thoughts...
