Nikki Speed?

Hey Gbuzz and ScoutWnHoops, there is a rumor going around on the OU boards that Nikki Speed committed to Oklahoma. Is this just a rumor or did she really just commit?

I would be very surprised if this were true, only because Danielle Robinson will be a Sooner this year. Not to say that Speed couldn't displace Robinson, but just surprising given that they are only one year apart, that's all.

I haven't heard that one yet. You'd have two electric point guards if that was the case.

On the OUinsider website. It had posted her as a commit. There are a bunch of fans trying to figure out if this was suppose to be meant for Whitney Hand or if it was indeed meant for Nikki Speed.

It will be really weird for OU to take a PG since they got D-rob, like you said. They have Plumley also. She is only a sophomore, and a pretty good PG herself.

Speed, Plumley, and D-rob at OU? That would be amazing.

Just spoke with Nikki Speed. She has not verballed or committed to any school at this time. Please post a link to site where you saw this.

It is about a 3rd of the page down. Very weird that they would post it as a commitment.

OUinsider just left the scout network this week (another affiliate that has had a dispute with scout)...they are still building their site. As the OP said above it looks like prospect they meant to indicate as an OU committment was Whitney Hand. Just a mistake in the chaos of moving websites.

Some summer programs prohibit their players from announcing any verbal commitments to the press or others as they want to attract as many college coaches as possible which in turm contributes to their tourneys or come to watch their team....

So with that being said, if any high level rising seniors verbally commit we will not be told and it could actually be denied, until after summer ball has concluded for programs that ask their players to honor their system.

I just read that thread. It is an old list of prospects that Oklahoma was recruiting at the time. Whitney Hand is listed as a possibility and has since committed. Whomever started this thread did not read very carefully. It says nothing about any of those kids committing. Heck, Jasmine Dixon's even listed there. Please be careful about jumping to conclusions.

Glenn - Please follow the link listed above again and go to line number 7. Line 7 in bold font unlike the others says:

7) Nikki Speed, PG, 5'8, Marlboro, California. (Committed to OU)


There can be no jumping to conclusions at to what that says, only to point out that it is not true. I am thinking you saw a similar post on the old board within the Scout network. The particular line in question is still posted at:

Does that mean, you are saying that Nikki Speed is no longer listed as an Oklahoma recruit? Seems weird after there was an update on her that listed Oklahoma as a favorite.

The only person who can verify a verbal commitment is the player herself. I've seen absolutely nothing out there to indicate that she has verballed to anyone.

In short, she hasn't committed to anyone, or else she isn't saying so, so that pretty much should cover it.

well, i wouldnt be surprised if she flirted with the idea, dont forget that her and Abi Olajuwon (who is a freshman there@OU) were teammates at marlborough high anyway, so anything is possible...

OUInsider has corrected this now...the committment was Whitney Hand not Nikki Speed...the confusion was just an error in moving websites.
