I was reading Marks article and it made me think about some things. First, here is a link to his article http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/basketball/womens/columns/story?columnist=lewis_mark&id=3522171

Now some of the things he mentioned really stood out and hopefuly coaches, parents and especially kids learned a little something. Mr Lewis mentions playing your heart out in front of coaches, this is something we have stressed to our girls year after year. It's sad to see talented kids on center stage go through the motions or even quit which is an automatic turnoff.

Another thing is for folks to be realistic about where their kids can play. You won't believe the number of kids that think they can play for Duke, NC or any other high profile team they see on TV even though they are not All American/State/City or even District.

I have heard of kids that are interested in certain schools send videos, go to that schools camp and just show the coaches they want to be there get on board and that shows hard work really paid off, especially when the child has done their own leg work.

Remember sometimes the best kids don't get scholarships and networking really helps especially if the kids makes good grades and they won't mind just being part of the team. Good luck to all in their journey, early signing will be here before you know it and hopefully you have taken care of your business.
