I have seen this happen with so many players and I wonder what the main reasons are.

Nice setup, Simmie. I think you know that burnout and being burnt by others go hand and hand. When some of these kids discover that there's life outside of basketball, whether it's good or bad, it tends to take away the focus and determination that's needed to go to the next level. There's a lot of other reasons, I'm sure, that are not self induced but either way it happens.

I know some kids burn out because of all the BS involved like parental involvement, not only their parents but parents of teammates that keep up BS that is uncalled for, you know the ones that want their kids getting all the attention no matter what, pass my daughter the ball, whining to whomever. I also know kids that get sick of their coaches and to be honest with you some of these coaches have no business in youth sports. Be it a coach riding them constantly for no apparent reason, hitting on them, whatever but in many cases that is what happened to them so the cycle continues.

Oh well for being a player and a child this is a easy one.
stress and parents
Stress-I know for me when you have Shooting and dribbling lessons on- monday,AAU practice on -tuesday,wednesday -free, Thursday- AAU practice, Friday- first day of a tournament (maybe),Saturday -tournament or AAU practice,Sunday -Skills lessons.
Parents- They want their children to do better then they did in life. So they pressure us so much to work 100 billion % every practice. If we don't well we get annoyed and stop listening.
Solution- Find something anything to remind you why you love the sport. For me I have reminders everywhere. On my door, school binder, everywhere.
