Can anyone tell me which NY area "showcase" tournaments are in his/her opinion the "fairest" and most "objective"?

What I mean is which one(s) would you say attract(s) the most variety of college scouts/coaches who aren't influenced by one or more of the local powerhouse high school coaches?

Sometimes I think the basketball community is heaping praise on some of the girls more because of who they play for rather than how they play.

Just curious...........teach me!!!!!!

I think its difficult to get individual praise when you are on a team that has a ton of star players. Generally two or three players on a team are talked about and the other players just blend in.

The good thing about being on a star studded team is you are seen. If your seen and you can play the chances of receiving an offer increases.

Tournaments in NYC area which attract the most college coaches:

Big Apple Tournament of Champions - Affiliated Exodus
Nike Summer Jam - Affiliated Liberty Belles
Long Island College Showcase - Affiliated Silver Bullets

Brooklyn: No disrespect to the ladies, NOT what I meant........I just mean you here the tournament is a "good" one because of the teams there.......That just means that the coaches are coming on the strength or reputation of the teams involved rather than the talent that is there (Chicken or the egg which comes first). I guess though, without that "rep" that each team brings these tournaments wouldn't be so high profile as far as recruiting is concerned.

Anyway thanks for your thoughts and list of tourneys.

If you mean college coaches they come because of the players they could care less about who is running the tourney or even the teams that they play on!

That's not the impression I get.................I hope you are right. I don't see many college guys at other tournaments. I do hear and read about the high profile tournaments having 100, 200, 300 coaches coming, that's the first thing they advertise when they post the tournament. Don't hear that about the other tournaments when only some and not all of the powerhouse programs are there.

The coaches are going to the tournaments where the top players are. In the spring the coaches’ send a questionnaire to the players they are recruiting asking which tournaments they are playing in. From the return of the questionnaire the coaches know which tournaments they need to be at.

Example: EDD is the big thing this summer. The UConn & Tenn. coaching staff will be at every game EDD plays in. Failure to attend a game could send a message that the school is not that interested.

The coaches are limited by the NCAA in the amount of days they can view events. They prefer to go to the large event because they can see the largest amount of quality recruits in one visit. The tournaments, which advertise large number of college coaches, offer enticements to the powerhouse programs to play in their events. This insures the best players and coaches come each year.
