Does anyone have any early updates on the Best of Md. Tournament starting today?? I see that the tournament has grown in the 10+ years since "we" last attended. Went from actually the Best of MD to the Best from the East Coast (and others)? Just checkin to see how the locals are doing.....

As of about 5:30 when I left,
HD Woodson is 2-0 defeating both Bath and Paint Branch very easily. All the ladies looked great. The youngins look like they are on their way as well.
MacNamara dropped it's first to Mandan. The team looks good and deep & has some nice size to boot.
Holy Cross defeated Bishop McGuiness in it's first game. Finally got to see or pay attention rather to the young PG, she is nice!
In a match up b/w locals, Elizabeth Seton defeated G'Town Visitation. Whatever Marshall was throwing up was falling at one point & Krusen just doesn't have enough help at GV. I still love the former Jericho PG, she looked very comfortable running a team of upperclassers!
The host team, Damascus was hanging in there with University out of New Jersey when I left with about 4 to go in the first half.

HD vs GV @ 9:45 & E. Seton @ 4pm tomorrow.

A Damascus landmark.

Holy Cross PG Lauren Chase and Seton PG Alyssa Albanese are 2 of the top players in the 2011 class

HD Woodson is 5-0 and Ronika Ransford is just plain SICK
Yesterday the took care of the locals, G'Town Visitation & E. Seton pretty easily to finish pool play undefeated.
The ladies ran into their toughest game so far this morning being down 18-7 at one pont in the first half vs Charminade-Julienne out of Ohio. They went into halftime down 2 and really never looked back. Bernisha Pinkett took Samarie(?) Walker out of the game, holding her scoreless in the 2nd half & the Warriors took over sealing the deal with a 56-45 victory to advance to the Semi-finals where they will see Team Excel/E. Roosevelt after they fought off Lauren Mincy (who was off)& a VERY tough PG from University HS in NJ in their quarter final game. ER was down the entire 1st half & won by about 9. E. Hall, O. Applewhite & K. Jacobs & Kizer's lil sis out of Potomac HS Va all contibuted to the W.

On the other side of the bracket Holy Cross won a buzzer beater over River Hill to advance to the Semi's where they will play Centinnal I believe.

At least I can say the locals are hanging in there living up to the name of this event.;)

BMac was down 13 -0 to start it's game vs Bath(a red hot 3 pt shooting team) & stole one 46-45 to take 4th place after a no-call on a shot block. Hey, get it however it comes!

Good luck to all the teams still in it!! IT'S SHOWTIME!

Did you see Martinsburg HS from WVA? I heard Jackie was making it rain...FOR REAL

we are bad! TE/ER Actually tried to intimidate the Warriors for the W... to no avail  Woodson handled it's biz & is 6-0 and after three OT's we'll see Centinnal HS out of Vegas. Holy Cross gave all they could to the out-of -towners, but couldn't close out losing 70-68.

Boogs, I couldn't catch them, they played the same times we did for the most part, but good thing this is a showcase because even with the Rainmaker Martinsville went 0-4 as did last year's champs St. Johns The Baptist.

1 more Warriors! Get'er Done!!

I had a chance to see Martinsburg play on the first day. If Jackie was #7, she was very impressive. That kid can shoot. I thought that she should have gotten more touches.

HDW controlled the game from start to finish against ER. I think the final score was 44-36. The frustrated ER player resorted to ruff house tactics. Their strategy did not bother an extremely focused HD team

what was score of the HD/ER game, who got off and did their thing?

Watching games 6 and 7 of HD's was a different kinda thing from the first five for me. I wasn't in my "streetscout" ;) mode, I was a big ole' fan! That said...
I can't remember the exact score, but...
E. Hall showed some of what she has hitting a couple threes and making some nice plays on O & D. The thinner, light-skinned post player for ER/TE tried, but JJ nor Alyssia Stewart were having it, AT ALL. I saw O. Applewhite take a few threes earlier in the weekend, they didn't fall, she hit one after the deal was sealed in this game. The Potomac duo tried to bring it, showing flashes of good stuff, but Neek, Bernisha nor Carleeda were having that. ER also had contributions by some kids whose names I don't know.

Who did their thing was:
Shanice Parker making a string of good plays off the top until she rolled her ankle and became a cheerleader for the remainder of the game. RONIKA. Enough said. Ok, gotta say this. A player was defending the inbound with her back turned, RR was inbounding the ball. She, (for the first time I've seen on the HSGBB level), bounced the ball off the defenders toosh & scored the easy, but fancy bucket. Back on topic,
Alyssia Stewart played valuable minutes and made valuable plays on O & D.
JJ is JJ, she was in foul trouble, due to crappy officiating & physical play, but showed a little of everything & ALWAYS brings the energy, physically & verbally! Rising Jr. Courtney Cayard hit about 3 big 3's and made several other plays, showing HD's depth at the guard spot.
The W in this game & the tourney as a whole was a team effort from the bench to the court.

The championship was just as exciting, with HD winning it all by 1 or 2! Great game, not enough energy to break it down.
I have to say, HD is an exciting team to watch:)
CONGRATULATIONS Coaches and players! Job well done...more work to do! ;)

who resorted to ruff house tactics?

O. Applewhite played extra physical to start the game, but claimed down after a few fouls.

A tall light skin girl wearing #0 thought that elbowing and pushing players would intimidate HDW. I don't want to say she intentionally played dirty, but it sure looked like it.

Congrats to Ransford and the Warriors, seems like I will be saying that a lot this year. See you guys in the winter for sure.

Let me start by saying HDW was the best team in the tournament hands down and congratulations to the players, coaches and fans. JJ is truly the anchor to a cast of excellent athletes. The HDW coaching staff has truly worked with her and made her a top one hundred player and a very nice young lady with class, personality and character, something that all the ladies of HDW displayed off the court as well as on the court.

Alexis Malloy, number 0, is also a young lady of character and class and was not intentionally out to rough house or hurt anyone. She just plays hard every play which is the only way the Raiders do anything on the court. That is what she does, plays hard. She rebounds the ball and truly gets after it on defense. Just as HDW played hard and was playing to win so were the ladies of ERHS. When E. Hall went to the basket she was hit hard, pushed and grabbed by players on the HDW team who were playing hard and that is basketball. I did not think there were any intentional, so called rough house play by HDW, they just were playing hard and I respect that. Alexis was playing hard as well and received as many elbows as she gave out. (I think the prognosticators forgot to mention during a lose ball Alexis was intentionally kicked while getting up from a lose ball. I know, I know you didn't see that). Why couldn’t you guys interrupt her play in a positive light instead of a negative light? Anyway, Alexis played well the entire weekend, for that matter the entire Spring/Summer and I am proud of her effort. She was playing to win but more important she was playing for an opportunity at a scholarship. I think more players need to play with her intensity. If you have ever watched her play she plays hard every play of every game and every practice and I think she helped her campaign this weekend playing against some good talent and a very good HDW team. I would like to think you guys would talk positively about her efforts and not negatively. Alexis is working hard to earn a schalorship and more importantly she is a young lady of character and class just as all the Lady Raiders are on and off the court, win or lose. I think Alexis would serve a university/college well if given a chance. She goes to war every game and what team does not need a warrior.

Alexis Malloy=WARRIOR

Congratulations HDW on a successful tournament and summer.

Just one man's opinion

LOL! Thanks DL, that comment just shows, again, the depth HD has at the guard spot! CG3 is a great PG and brings things to the table that HD coaches players and fans value. Saying what Neek can do take nothing from Carleeda, she does what she does & Neek does what she does.

R08, I sure didnt see the kick & I won't go back & forth. I just posted what I walked away with, as you did. Great game by both teams. Good luck to all young ladies, hope they reach their goals!

I attended the Best of MD tourney in its entirety and was able to watch almost every team. I'll preface my comments with this...I'm not affiliated with Excel or ER in any way.......Alexis Malloy plays hard every play and was truly the X factor in the University win. She will definitely help whatever college program she chooses. Congrats to the entire ER/Excel team. Your games are always a pleasure to watch.
