It seems like getting this info is like getting candy from a baby, or a pass out of a ball hog to be more board friendly!! Somebody Anybody!!?? Was TRP living up to her billing, what about Kizer & the Notre Dame posts or the new post out of Pa. for FFS? How'd R. Saunders do for Lady Magic, any believers yet? What about Simone is she coming around or is it still early for her? Did Team Unique run? I'm getting BMac & Gtown teams confused, but I know there was more than enogh ball being played for the board to talk about. Come on folks we won't have another weekend like this until July when the Jr. Nationals are here...

spwri I wanted all of the home teams to win, however in the games that I saw they lost. I used to give a report on the games during the high school season however after the Vtech tragedy someone sent me a message saying the board was feeling uncomfortable about me posting about the games and that they felt that I had too much information on the girls, so I ceased reporting on games, obviously there are other who were told the same thing. My wife tried the posting thing but everyone said her posts were too confusing (which they were). It has nothing to do with my team losing. My question for you however is: Why is there always so much anger in your posts?

AC, I feel no anger in my posting my thing is that people are posting ranking but havent
seen all the players play and to say some one shouldnt be play with her age group and
playing up when there not dominating there age group is wrong. I do realize people have
there opinion but I'm a realist if a kid can play I will give her just do. That why I like what

I realize that this post may get me banned from the site but you asked for it teammom. So here goes.
Disclaimer: Post contains only opinions from one seat in the stands, surely another seat may be watching a different game. Also note, post may contain refernces of other games and/or non basketball related events that are real but may be fictional but appear as real to the writer. All post are for entertainment purposes only, any rebroadcast or retransmission without expressed written consent of AC or Hoopgurls is prohibited.
Now that, that's out of the way...Gtown great stuff, moderate admission for an all day, all weekend event (Team Sol take note). L word Majic 92 beat Norfolk Express by two touchdowns and a fieldgoal, I walked in at the end of that one just in time to check out their jazzy new uniforms.
Bmac played the Silver Bullets from NY. I knew no one from the SB team, but they all could play, no one really stood out and Bmac lost by 1 after T.Myers hit a half court 3 at the buzzer.
Bmac-Philly Belles held my interest because I wanted to see Coroline Doty. I like everyone else wanted to know was she the real deal. Bmac found out early that they were, finding themselves down about 29-12 early. Looked like a blowout was in session until Bmac decided to adjust with some aggressive play, realizing that the refs can't call every foul, can they? If they did the game would still be going on. Besides these refs do want to continue doing WCAC games, so the refs went into pick and choose which fouls to call (However corporate America and a handed down miseducation would not let Bmac get away with too much) which all led to a tie score at about 42 and the Philly crowd, who mind you boos everyone, begin the chant of "home cooking" from the stands. Back to Doty who put on a show, but did it in the flow of the game, a 3 here, a 2 there, a couple of ft's and alley oop of the inbound pass, what's that about 25pts for her? The coach subbed her right along with the rest of the girls it just seem like everytime she entered the game she would score a quiet 5 points then sub out. Bmac didn't roll over losing in OT by 5 I think and Bmacs coach fought off the distraction of not knowing the status of his daughter for the last third of the game with what appeared to be a broken nose. T.Myers looked good from the 3 range like a left handed Jasmine Thomas, and the light skinned starter forgot her name got offensive boards at will and got to the basket and ft line constently with strong hard right moves.
L word Majic 92-Boo Williams(six) 15, watching the warmups I saw two things, Majic was without pg Bryant who played for Bmac, and Boo of whom I didn't know anyone could shoot. Parents in the stands were demanding a refund saying "we came all the way up here to play some 14 year olds" "I want my money back". Seemed like I was about to see a good match up of two 7 footers, Majics 6'3" Vails and Boo's 6'3" white girl. But by halftime Boo's girl was yet to see the floor. Scoring was aniemic for both teams 10 minutes into the game and the score 4-2 Boo. The 5'8" PA girl who in my opinion may be the Majics best and most physical player had issues when the elbow came back...end result a bloodied nose and not so aggressive PA girl. Franklin showed some outside skill hitting a spot up 3 and a spot up 15 footer she also showed insid strength scoring after contact (SAC). Richmond was a pleasant surprise at the point using her body to protect the ball ala Mark Jakson and Gary Payton and also hitting a spot up jumper. Vails got hurt (ankle) late in the game, so at that point Majic was down Bryant, Vails, and had a somewhat passive PA girl. Majic doesn't look as strong as I remembered but being down players would make things appear that way. However J. McIntosh is the X factor that the PA girl was last year. She plays multiple positions, hits 3's, get rebounds, and doesn't turn the ball over and stands about 5' 8/9". Boo's 7 footer did get in and was fouled early and after the first ft you could hear distant chants of airball, airball, airba...but the the next one was all net go figure. As for the game it went back and fourth with neither team able to pull away by more that four. They were tied at the end of regulation so you know OT. Majic kinda gassed out they tried to go to the sure thing Franklin in the post but it was just too crowded for her down there. Boo pulled it out with a 6 point OT victory. Boo's parents were not talking refund anymor but happy to escape with a W. (Note: My opinion full strength Majic wins by 10 in regulation)
If I can still post tommorrow I will tell you about the Boo Elite-FFStars game, you will love that one.

Having family down here and "playing" down here in summer. Is this the girl who played on team last summer and returned to PA during this past school year. What is to stop all teams from having out of state players and saying "oh she has family down here".....yeah, right.

I don't follow AAU ball enough to know all the details. But my daughter lives in MD and was going to play for a VA team but she was cut. I believe that anyone can play for any team since it is being paid for, I don't think it matters what state you are from. I heard last season she was going to be playing for McNamara this past year.

An athlete may participate in her District of residence, where she attends school full time OR in a bordering District
qualifying tournament. At no time will a player be eligible to play in a District that is not her own or does not border her
own. She shall register in her resident District.
-A maximum of three (3) athletes from bordering Districts will be allowed on any team at the District, Regional or
National level.

Its plain and simple, Maryland AAU touches that not Potomac Valley. Potomac Valley is only Northern VA, DC, Mont County and PG County. So in the world is Potomac valley any where near Delaware or PA????? Maryland AAU is, not Potomac Valley

06-11-2007, 11:56 AM
There are 2 counties from MD that are part of Potomac valley Montgomery and Prince George's. The rest of the state is the AAU MD Region...so yes Cecil County, MD does border Delaware but it is part of the Maryland AAU Region.

What I don't understand is that everyone has something to say but doesnt really know
what going on or the rules the young lady played with the majic last summer when they
one the national championship. Now for the record the Majic went thru the proper channel
thru AAu (Eddie Clinton) to make sure the player was able to play, now all of a sutton
everyone has a problem like I said before the FFstars Elite (Kieth Brown) has a young
lady on his team from Pa and no one has nothing to say but when it comes to the majic
everyone has something to say. Now the rule is that if you have residence in the Potomac Valley region as long as you dont play with any bordering region team in regional or a
super regional you eligable to play with a Potomac Valley program providing residency
for example the Majic Coach Johnson daughter live in Sc all these year and play for the
Team Excell, The Crusader & Lady Majic but never play with no in South Carolina but
had residency in Maryland so that made her eligable to play in the Potomac Valley with
proven document. Again this is just WOMEN BASKETBALL no one is getting paid !!!
If you going to read the rule make sure you understand them and its not full time residency
Theguru
06-12-2007, 08:08 AM
Just because people did not question it (Coach Johnson) does not mean it was correct. I am sure it happens a lot but it is more visible when you win. Also rule says district is school district and she played at Harrisburgh meaning she is MA region and Potomac as I found out does nor border so it will be an issue.

06-12-2007, 08:39 AM
Coached daughter or not, if she not living here then she should not be playing here, PERIOD. That goes for Majic and FF Stars. Doing this crap is part of the problem, no one sees anything wrong in bending rules when it suits them. But are the 1st to complain when someone else has broken them and your team lost because of it. How can you say someone lived in another state all year but somehow showed residency up here. Thats ridiculous. Sounds like a set up....bottome line u live somewhere else physically.....thats where u play. HEY I HEAR ELENA DELLEDONNE ALTHOUGH SHE LIVES IN DELAWARE ALSO HAS RESIDENCY DOWN IN PG COUNTY CUZ OF A COUSIN....YALL SHOULD GO PICK HER UP TO.................... THATS FAIR, RIGHT???

06-12-2007, 10:35 AM
Balling, I couldn't agree with you more. Too many of these AAU programs care more about winning and national reputations than the kids. I've seen the FFStars drop kids who have been with their program for a couple of years and actually live in FAIRFAX for a kid who lives in another states because she may be a better player. If a kid lives and goes to school in SC then she should be allowed to play in VA...period.

SPWRI- I actually kinda agree with you on this one. I understand why rules should be in place but really what does it matter. If a player and her parents don't mind traveling across God's green earth to play basketball with a particular team not in their region, I say let them. Alot of girls move mountains to play at private schools that are not next door why should AAU be any different. Why should there be any restrictions on what team a girl plays with?

I played in a league at work and at some point they allowed family members to play. Then people started bringing in their "cousins" and stacking their team. No one said much because everyone had "cousins" on the team. But one year one team was stacked with 6'10" cousins and it wasn't fair anymore. The next year we said no family members could play, but we grandfathered the guys who have played before to allow them to stay. It solved the problem. Can this kid be grandfathered in since she played last year and no one seemed to care. I think it will solve the issue and avoid anyone trying to break rules or worst yet falsify documents in order to play basketball, because altering or falsifying some documents is a serious crime. I say vote to let all illegal players that are playing now stay but don't add anymore if it's ok.

The PA girl and her brother have been staying with me for the last past 5 summers in MD. I have custody of them every summer, which has been documented years...so that's how she is elgible to play AAU in the summer in Potomac Valley. Her brother finished 2nd in the nation in 2005 with the Mitchelville Trailblazers and also continues to play in this region.....so this isn't something new......these kids have been visiting with me during the summer playing basketball in this region for years.

That one pass, that one foul, that one 3 pointer at the buzzer etc..... A persons presence cant be understated if they saw any time at all. You should know about allll those battles the FFstars, Lady Majic and Flames had last 2 yrs....some games were legendary. If a player was being used who dont belong there......thats not right. PERIOD!! We know you have a kid on that team or a big fan of the players, so why would your opinion change.............lol

The parents didn't have to relinquish custody of the son if they didn't want to, because boys can play where ever they want to. I think the girl's rule should be the same as the boys. The parents just found a loop hole in the system. Maybe the system should be looked at not the parents or the organization.

The State of Maryland doesn't hand over custody arbitrarily. To gain custody there needs to be a situation where a parent is abusive, neglect, drug use, illegal activity, ect. A parent can have joint custody in a case of separation or divorce. I have no ideal what this kids situtiation is, but I question which court awards custody then gives back custody in the fall only to take custody away again in the spring. Like lboogie said sometimes its best to remain silent, this is a can of worms waiting to be opened.

The Lady Majic organization has complied with all AAU Rules. Just because parents are divorced or the child lives in a different area during the summer should not preclude her from playing the game. You have to be kidding me, grown-up people arguing over where one young lady plays that has been cleared by the AAU to do so. If everyone hates the Lady Majic that much, just come see these young ladies play together and see their love of the game. They strive to get better everyday and to make an impact on the game, even at 14 or 15 years old. Last but not least, "Don't hate, Congratulate"!

The Majic won the national championship last summer. They won the PV regionals this past April. It is now the beginning of June. Is your outrage running on tape delay? It's like this is off the point of the Gtown games and this child is getting tossed through the wringer. I would love to keep the belt in pg county.
