Over the years I have been like a sponge and absorbed everything college coaches have told me. First of all, they don't care who wins the game and they really don't care if Sally or Suzy scores their 20 or 30. They are looking for pieces to fit their puzzle, in other words, players to fit what they need in their system. Sure, Hoopgurlz top 100 will go somewhere but what seperates say numbers 200-500? Yes, they are looking for talent but say Becky and Bonita are both PGs with similar skills, they look for certain INTANGIBLES
The kids need to support their teammates and coaches and not argue with the refs. You would be surprised at what the colleges look at, one even commented on my daughter getting water for and supporting her teammates on the floor while she was on the bench. The kids need to be on their Ps and Qs, as do the parents. Fortunately my antics were overlooked, of course my kid was top 20 player but I have heard parents MFn it and calling their AAU coaches other 4 letter words so please don't think the college coaches don't register this.
Tell the kids to play hard, don' t give up and be gracious winners, no taunting is necessary as well as taking losing in stride. Good sportsman and citizenship are part of the intangibles so best of luck to all.
