Is this an off year for NYC girls basketball or have they lost it?

The past few years NYC had 5 star highly rated Hoopgurlz recruits.

2005 - Kia Vaughn
2006 - Tina Charles, Prince
2007 - Dixon

In 2008 NYC best Hoopgurlz rating is #41 - Leary.

Have we reached a dry spell in NYC ?

I know all of Lorin Dixon's junior year Hoopsking was an advocate for people to stop and take notice of her and often times he beat us over the head with it day in and day out....She eventually got the recognition...

Hoops has been virtually silent on the National boards this year and sometimes it takes a voice to bring a great player into the light. Just havent heard much from NYC...

Well he did mention Amanda Burakoski. She is a 2009 player. The Saints scrimmaged her team " New York City Heat" Tuesday. She was great against the Saints. Runs the floor well, has a great 3 point shot. Good Passer. Good size 6'2" I would like to see her play against high caliber players. I'm not sure what the NYC Heat schedule is this year. She is worth a look.

Did Shenise Johnson move to NYC? I thought she was from Buffalo

The leading candidates for Miss Basketball next year IMO, Shenise Johnson and Sammy Prahalis are both outside NYC - that hasn't happened in awhile. We have had many non City kids win the award but I always remember somebody from NYC in the mix. I guess Shakeeya Leary would be the leading candidate to crack that top duo. Of course, this all could change based on actual performance and the traditional City HS powers should still be strong next year.

I love Alexa Roche and Shennika Smith at St. Mikes and Exodus!! Those two wing players are monsters and create match-up problems for any team they come up against.

Mary Louise Academy is not in Brooklyn. It is in Queens.

Both Smith & Roche have been seen numerous times by Hoopgurlz. For now I don't see either cracking the top 10. I may be wrong but I think Roche is from Long Island.

I believe Leary, Smith& Grandma are from Brooklyn.
