Clay just laid down the blue prints of hosting a tournament. This is a great piece. I hope that some of these tournament host listen.

Clay, Great article, we all dream of a tournament like this. One thing If I may, Having just experienced this at the Boo Williams Tournament. If the event is an "East Coast" event, the "West Coast" teams shouldn't draw the early game. My daughters team had the 8 a.m. game on saturday which is really 5 a.m on the west coast. I guess that could be the opposite for "East Coast" teams playing in "West Coast" Tournaments having the late game opening day. The 9 p.m. game would be the equivalent of tipping off at midnight. Keep up the great job. :)

Thanks for the kind words ...
The time change is more important than people realize. When Stanford played Maryland in the Regional Finals this year, it was a 9 p.m. start -- which meant it was midnight for the Terps.
Stanford played very well, and was a very good team, but there's no question that was somewhat of an advantage.

Strange that the NCAA allows that... the so-called second-rate NAIA has had that rule in place for all its sports for years. West doesn't play early, East doesn't play late at any NAIA national championship.

No one ever accused the NCAA of being fair -- or being run well.

Clay will organize the next big tournament, forget everyone else. LOL

I have trouble enough organizing my team's schedule, and a one-day shootout in the Bay Area.
But then again, I don't make quite as much money doing that as the organizers of these big tournaments do. If you do the math, the profit margin can be pretty high on these events -- and 'exposure' events are even more profitable.
