I was at an exposure event last year and ran into Cokie Reed, one of the top recruits for 2009. She asked me why I was still coaching and Sydney was in college. I told her because I like helping kids. This is the honest to god truth and it pisses me off when someone from the other side gets slick with a cute screen name and tries to start some mess. Check out some of the kids that have come through our program that you haven't heard of however we always found ways to be succesful and success goes beyond the court. I don't waste my time running behind parents trying to sell something to them like many folks. Arica Green and Krystal Motley are a couple of examples that probably wouldn't have had an opportunity to play at the next level but they are. People are too hung up on winning, parents included and it sickens me that people think that's the most important thing. Competition makes you better and if your kid is fortunate enough to make their MS or HS teams after competing and raising their game, that is WINNING If your kid is fortunate enough to go to school FREE, people that is WINNING. As a kid I was always taught to beware of wolves in sheeps clothing and feed your enemies with a long handled spoon. That message applies to GBB in Houston as well and as Herb put it, some of these kids get recruited by summer teams more than some will be by colleges. I am not in the game of recruiting. I beat the pavements at MS games this year passing out cards. We place our tryouts in the paper. Almost 70 kids showed up and some parents called after the fact wanting their kids to play. Even though some of the kids may have been better than who we already had, I assume we were to cut those kids who were told they made it. My daughter played 14u when she was 12. We started out with a bang and were giving the established teams a run for their money. She was running the show and playing against the top kids in the city helped her game. I said all that to say this, I don't see many 12s doing what she did against HS players, HTX Brook comes to mind so if wanted to RECRUIT a 12u player, why not go after the one that reminds me of my kid? Maybe this is why parents don't send me to voice mail when I call!

I don't know you because I am in Maryland, but if you truly do this because you like helping the kids out, then don't worry about the haters out there. I learned a long time ago, you can't please everyone.

Simmie, I love the way you are always about the kids. We live up 45 north, I always get advice from others about the path I will take for my family. I learned in a short time it not about what your kids do now ,but what will she/he be doing in 5 years are they in line to get a free ride to get a quality education. Keep doing it the way you do it.Next generation of parents need this I know my family and I do

Thanks guys. Parents really shoud be aware and do a bit more research than having someone approach them about their kid and talk about being sponsored or free this. Nothing is free and the kid has to put in the work, on the court and in the classroom.

It sounds like to me from the message board and a couple of friends that we have in common that you are a great ambassador for the game and for your kids in the program. You can not change the way others think or believe you can only handle your business and not waste your energy and time trying to make everyone like you. Some people are so miserable they just want everyone else to be miserable with them.

You hit that on the head and this comes from the Aggie message board. It really makes me proud when others say good things about my kids.

This kid has never looked down on her teammates no matter what their skill level was and even if they screwed up over and over. She always supported them, even if it was some petty jealousy was going on, usually initiated by parents and to be completely honest with you, I think aTm is going to better next year. They just got a commit from a juco that is supposed to be all everything, 4 heralded incoming freshmen and a healthy Tyra White. I am sure your kids will do just fine, you seem to be a parent that is in the know and doesn't mind spending a little time doing your own research. I had some great people help me along the way, 2 in particular along with my obsession with message boards. Good luck and if you ever have a question, i'm here to help.
