Sacred Heart ranked number 1 by USA Today played St. Mary's ranked #5, I believe. SHCP was down 45-44 with 10.5 seconds left when Junior Tierra Rogers jit a jumper in the lane. She had 12 points, Kiki Moore had 12, and Jazmine Jackson had 17. Sacred Heart trailed most of the game. Afire Jemerigbe had 14 points and Chelsea Gray had 12 for St. Mary's (32-1), SHCP (32-0)

SHCP will now play Saturday, 1:00 PM at Arco Arena in Sacramento, against the SoCal winner.

that was a great game, but it should not have been that close, the referees were horrible. 1 of the ref's didnt call a faol against sacred heart the whole night. what are the odds of that ? to referee a game like that and not ever blow the whistle against one team.

The officiating was hardly the issue. There were two controversial calls in the last minute, and each team got one call. Both teams' top players were in foul trouble by game's end.

Blaming this on officiating is simply looking for excuses.

Two girls from St. Mary's had a chance to win the game in the final 30 seconds, one at the free throw line and one at the buzzer. One girl from SHC had a shot to win the game, and she made it.

fot anyone that saw the game not to question calls on boths sides would have to be a person that hasnt ever been to a game.

the ref's were bad from the 1st quarter on.......

yes both teams were in foul trouble in the forth, but some players could have fouled out in the 3qtr had some obvious calls been made. i assume that you didnt see the play when #4 from SM set a pick at the top of the key and #11 from SH came around and puched her down and a foul wasnt called. that is just one example of open court calls that werent made.

watch the game and count how many times the shorter female ref called fouls and then tell me how many were against SH. go ahead and take a look, i will check back in a few days for your response and i see you post here all the time so it isnt like you arent ever comming back.

the game was great back and forth action, and i know that most people dont want the ref's to decide a game, but it #4 wasnt fouled at the buzzer then maybe she makes the shot, maybe, just maybe.

Both Clay and I probably had better vantage points than you, redrocket. I actually was under the basket that Jemerigbe was shooting at. Clay was right at center court. The possibility that the game was decided any iota by the officiating did not even cross my mind. As Clay points out, St. Mary's had two golden opportunities to win the game.

Please don't ruin what was a great game between two very good teams. St. Mary's will be back - and probably next year compete for a mythical national title.

when you say that you were under the basket, do you mean that you were standing next to it or do you mean that you were in the stands right behind the the basket ?

i am not trying to ruin a great game played by 2 great teams, but i am just calling it how i saw it and how many people not part of the SM program saw it. you cant tell me that you have never seen a game that you walked away from and thought that the ref's bad. well, this was one of those games that many people, including the media, thought.

lets just say that if i were any closer to the action, i would have been either been 1 of the ref's or one of the players.

The general consensus here in California is pretty much that St. Mary's fans thought it was a bad call, and Sacred Heart fans thought it was a good call.

And the roles were reversed on a key charging call that went against Sacred Heart just a few seconds before.

I literally was sitting right under the basket; you should be able to tell by the photos I took.

Still, the way St. Mary's shot free throws that game, the call or lack of a call is probably immaterial.

Glenn,

We know you were right under the basket because you are in just about every video highlight shot from CalHiSports. You got more air time than half the players! :-)

Red was it a 2 or 3 man crew? I was not at the game but am an official. If the officials didn't switch after fouls (which should happen but usually doesn't much under the college level) it will many time put one official in a situation that the calls appear one sided because I stay in the same zone and most calls are (especially by the lead(baseline official)) against the defense. Just someting to note as you are watching refs, are they switching after fouls.

it was a 3 person crew, 1 man and 2 women. 1 ref in particular didnt call 1 foul against sacred heart the whole game, so it doesnt matter where they were rotating after fouls. though i understand what you mean.

please understand that i am not just making reference to the last play of the game. i am talking about the tickie tack fouls called on st marys and the open court ones that werent called against SC. what happened in the first half has a big affect on how teams play in the second. i didnt matter to me who won teh game. i just cant understand how ref's could be so bad in a game like that.

Again, I really didn't care who won, and though the officials had a bad game, it didn't seem to me that SHC got much more of the calls than St. Mary's.

One of the great quotes comes from Skip Caray, an announcer who did the Hawks for years and then started doing all NBA games. 'It's amazing how much better the officiating is,' he said, 'when you don't care who wins.'

I also didn't care which team won; I just hoped to see a great game, which I did. Like Clay, I had absolutely no sense that one team or the other had any advantage or disadvantage with the officiating.
