Jackson pulled out a very tough game from an inspired Oak Harbor team 55-53. It was close throughout with Jackson in the lead most of the game but only by 3 to 5. Oak Harbor hung tough and played a very well executed game and never let Jackson pull away. Jackson suffered from some poor shooting from their usual go-to players and they were hurt inside quite a bit by OH's height. Jackson was outrebounded the entire game and were burned several times with their trapping defense that Oak Harbor was able to handle well. Jackson had a 5 point lead late in the game but missed several outside shots, and Oak Harbor capitalized with the rebounds and good shooting. Meitra Smollack hit the second of two free throws to tie the game at 53. Jackson brought the ball upcourt and called a timeout with under 20 seconds left to set up a play. The play was to put the ball in Kingma's hands and clear out. Essentially it was Kristi against Oak Harbor as she calmly worked the ball in off the dribble and hit a jump shot from the top of the key with 7 seconds left. Oak Harbor got the ball down the court but Jackson intercepted a pass at the end to seal the victory. Kristi carried the load tonight and hit clutch shots when they needed. Jackson's defense was sloppy and their usually supportive cast was off. Erin Feeney hit 3 treys in the first quarter but was not much of an offensive threat the rest of the game as she got into foul trouble. Both Ashly Bruns and Ashley Todd could not find their shots tonight. Oak Harbor played a very good game and exposed the weaknesses of Jackson, lack of height inside and questionable defense at times. However, good teams win ugly and rely on their superstars and Kristi came through for them tonight. Lets hope this is their "bad" game that every team has and regroups as there are tough times ahead in the strong WESCO north and hopefully state.
