If you look at the #1 high school player in the country for the past 4 years, What order would you rank them ? Which player do you think has the best chance of being college player of the year?

C. Paris, T. Charles, M. Moore, EDD

Is there any college player in the same grade level who you think may outshine these players in College?

Paris has the best chance of being POY of the 4, but I think talent wise she is the 4th best in the group. If EDD attends UT or Connecticut, her chances of being the NPOY will be much less than if she were to attend MTSU or Villanova.

In terms of level of impact at the college level, I'd rank the 4 as follows:
1. Courtney Paris
2. EDD
3. Maya Moore
4. Tina Charles

In terms of chances of being college POY, I'd rank them as follows:
1. Courtney Paris
2. Maya Moore
3. EDD(assuming she picks UT or Connecticut)
4. Tina Charles

In terms of projecting their pro careers/potential at the next level, I'd rank them:
1. Maya Moore
2. Tina Charles
3. EDD
4. Courtney Paris

Nobody from the 2005 class has come close to doing what Paris has done at the collegiate level, the only player I'd list who is within several steps of her is Angel McCoughtry.

From 2006, I think that Harris outshined Charles this year and has more potential down the road if she applies herself, but this is coming from a UT fan. I also think that Jayne Appel is going to be a very good player and we could potentially see a great matchup between her and Charles in the NCAAs over the remaining 3 years.

For 2007, I think Moore is the clear cut #1 player right now, down the road I think Baugh could be as good as Moore if she develops a consistent outside shot and continues to develop her game as an oversized wing.

For 2008, EDD has had all the hype since around 8th grade, but I think many other players could have huge impacts too, whether they'll be greater than Elena's will be determined in fall 2008.

Just some thoughts: You've obviously put a lot of thought/study into this. And you've pointed out something that I think speaks volumes for the work ethic of Miss Courtney Paris. She is the epitome of Consistency.

Just one clarification, please: I read this to include the last three, plus next year's probable POY, Elena Delle-Donne. Candace Parker just finished only her third year of college, to include her redshirt season.

As to the difference from One - - - to Two - - - et al: The list of players who did Not make the U19 Roster - Kelley Cain, Jeanette Pohlen, Sydney Smallbone, Marah Strickland, and other notables - is very telling. That, plus your mention of Vicki Baugh, is testamony to the incredible depth of talent in today's game. It wouldn't be all that surprising to see someone else, especially considering your assessment of "where" they go to college, either from the 2007 or 2008 class, emerge as a POY.

Candice Parker as she is but one year removed from those listed and except for Maya, she will eclipse all the others in overall skills, records and value,,, JMO Plus she is the first 2 time HS player of the year and probably the first to do what others like Elena is doing as a guard,,, .

I am not a UCONN fan; I'm a Yankee fan so I consider Conn. as part of the fan base for the Boston Red Sox.

Since I'm from New York, I like Tina Charles. It’s ironic but Tina wanted to go to Tenn. up until her sophomore year in high school. We played the 14 U Nationals in Tenn. and all Tina talked about was going to Tenn. After her sophomore year in high school it was all UCONN.

I like Candice Parker. She is very talented. This question however was not about Parker. If you would like to post your own question, feel free.

I didn't mean to start a UT - UC debate, but since the original question stated "the past four years," I thought it worth mentioning that Candace Parker, though redshirtted due to knee surgery, is, for eligibility purposes, indeed, only a sophomore (now a junior). But your point is well-taken.

Hey Saints good thread...although you listed Paris, Moore and Charles you asked for the top high school players in the last four years which would also include Candace Parker - Class of 2004. I am assuming you meant if we look at the past three years of #1 ranked high school players...

Any mention of ANYTHING concerning either team will start a UT-UC debate lol.

Impact at Collegiate Level
1. Courtney Paris(Too Big and Strong, DEFINATE dbl dbl)
2. Maya Moore
3. EDD
4. Tina Charles

Chances of Being College POY
1. Courtney Paris(She isn't the most Skilled player, but you can't deny her stats)
2. Maya Moore
3. EDD
4. Tina Charles

At the Next Level
1. Maya Moore
2. EDD
3. Tina Charles
4. Courtney Paris

Who has the best chance at overtaking them.

Courtney Paris- NO ONE in her class( unless you include Parker)

Tina Charles- Amber Harris SO FAR has looked like the best player in the class to me, Gemelos will probably surpass Tina too.

Maya Moore- hmmmm, , BUT if Maya continues working as hard as she has thus far, It would be VERY hard for someone to surpass her. A few names to throw out there Baugh/Jasmine Thomas/ It's kinda hard to say, Alot of these players are sooo unsure about thier position and playing style that it would really depend on if the Coach's system caters to the player's ability.

EDD- Ogwumike THE END

lol

that would include Parkers senior year... You posed the question, include a worthy candidate if you set the rules...But also please forgive me for asking about the UC connection, it is just very blatant to not include Parker whom MOST feel (not just UT fans) is the premier college player and maybe the best HS player along with Maya in the last 10 years

You posted;

"Is there any college player in the same grade level who you think may outshine these players in College?"

Also you asked the above question in your survey so I did not hi jack the post, she was twice HS player of the year and this year 3 services chose her the College player of the year in one form or another,, Has been a part of a national Championship so looks like she might qualify

Its probably just semantics, but if you redshirt a year you don't stay in the same grade level. Paris is a soon to be junior. Parker is a soon to be senior. I assume Parker will graduate with the other people in her grade next year.

Anyway I know Parker is a great player. I'm interested in projecting the future of the players in the 95,96,87 & 98 high school graduating years.

I feel like I am in that decade as well, but, dont you mean 05. 06. 07,08?

With that clarity it really does become quite an arguable debate between:
Paris
Moore
Charles
EDD

Whoops! where has the time gone.

It looks like Tina Charles is coming out low on most peoples list. Is that because of the school and players she will be playing with or has her star lost some of its shine after playing a year of college ball?

and that is justification for Tina's #1 ranking when coming out of HS. With that I want to venture out and say we haven't seen Ms Charles yet as she seemed to have a couple injuries that she tried to play through last year. She is going to be an excellent player and what I have heard a good citizen also. She is just going to have to get healthy and have a stronger supporting cast around her which she is getting with Maya. Maya excites me and I think before she is through basketball, unless she is hurt, she will be the female Michael Jorden. I have seen her since she moved here to Gwinnett and she has swam in our pool at a party the AAU team she was on with my oldest daughter had. She will awesome and Charles will be that much better because of her presence

By the way Parker is only a junior this COMING year

The 2005 and 2006 classes IMO don't look NEARLY as strong as the 04/07/08 classes.

Tina is a great player, and a future star, but In comparison to the other classes top players(except 2005) she only looks average.

I'm not looking for any justification. I doubt if anyone is a bigger Tina Charles fan than I. I was Tina's only fan with she was in 7th grade sitting on the bench for her AAU team. I would sit in the stands yelling Motumbo whenever Tina would block a shot. Now that Tina is doing well you think I want to question why she is rated #1?

Parker has gone to Tenn for 3 years. One year she had a knee injury. The next two years she played basketball. From a basketball point of view she has 2 years remaining to play. From a school point of view she should be a senior unless she has not taken the required course work. Just because the term redshirt is used does not mean your grade in school has changed.

Class of 2005:
PARIS is simply heads over heels above everybody else from the Class of 2005.

Class of 2006:
I think that 3 other players had as good a freshman season as CHARLES, namely, Amber HARRIS of Xavier, Jayne APPEL of STANFORD, and Monica WRIGHT of Virginia.

Looking forward to the 2007-2008 college season, I think that redshirt freshman Jackie GEMELOS of USC, assuming that she is 100% healthy, will have the best chance to outshine everybody else from the Class of 2006, primarily because she will be the #1 option on offense for USC next season (with the graduation of Eshaya MURPHY and season-ending injury to Class of 2007 standout Sephanie GILBREATH). I haven't seen her play, but 2 girls basketball aficionados from California, whom I've talked to at length, consider her as the best shooting guard that they have ever seen in 20+ years of watching HS girls basketball.

BrooklynSaints, Thanks for clearing things up, because you obviously threw some of us for a loop when you suggested we consider the number one high school player the past four years. So, essentially, what you've asked us to consider is the past three years, plus next year (2008).

Of course, this stipulates that Elena DelleDonne will be next year's Player of the Year.

I think is's understandable, that, after reading your original post, some would mention Candace Parker; but, at any rate, this is a very interesting subject.

and sat on it and I had no imtention to do so, I had no agenda and perhaps the choice of words I used kept grinding on that nerve. Please accept that I am never gonna stick a knife in any child as I have two daughters who I have seen come thru sports programs. My oldest played with such strong kids like Maya Moore, Shantell Black @ Alabama, and others before crushing some bones in her hand thus ending her decent chance of playing some lower D-1 ball. The youngest is still developing but as a 5'10 freshman guard at Mill Creek she has time to round out to perhaps an assist from the better North Eastern schools of which she dreams and has the grades for. If not she can still attend those goals on acedemic scholies maybe. The point is we should always practice Glenn's policy of never saying anything personal about these kids because they are just that,, kids whom some parent loves.

Back to you please don't take what I have said personal as I was being sensitive to what I thought was a shot by omitting Candice because she has unfairly been labeled by opposing fans. You are lucky enough to have seen and enjoyed a fine child grow and become the #1 target nationally and that is something we all would like to see personally.

By the way can I be a parent and brag just a moment especially on this weekend. I mentioned my oldest who is now 19,,, last year she was fortunate to be 1st runnerup in the Miss Georgia Christian Pagent and Monday she rides in a Parade as the newly Crowned Miss Memorial Day here in Gwinnett County.. Thanks for indulging a single parent who has been blessed with raising two young ladies by himself.. shows you that the Lord has a sense of humor if He trusted me to raise them after being every father's nightmare back in college

Go lady athletes and take advantage of all opportunities out there

I am not upset about anything you or anyone else has said. Perhaps the way I write gives that impression but I am not. English was never one of my better subject so sometimes my post give people the wrong impression.

Congrats to your daughter. Sounds like she has a lot more going for her than basketball.
