This was a great surprise. I thought we were not going to have another Podcast until the Midwest tournament?

Lots of good information. I really enjoyed it.

Interview: It was difficult to hear the players because it was done in the gym. The background bouncing of balls made the players sound far away. Not sure if that can be fixed because its difficult to find an isolated place to talk to players.

BrooklynSaints,

I had another piece that was supposed to be part of the Podcast which was an interview with Brianna Gilbreath. Due to the loud gym we went outside in the gorgeous Irvine sunshine and the wind ended up overtaking the file. Check out Friday's Prospect Watch for the details of the interview but we'll get this right sooner or later!

Another great Podcast guys. What I enjoyed the most was hearing the players talk about what they do to make it to where they are.

I dont think some people understand the level of committment, the training, etc.. that it takes to TRULY be at the next level.

Maybe in the future would enjoy hearing more from the girls about what their recruiting process has been like, talking about phone calls, and e-mails and letters and the soon to be disappearing text messaging....maybe a segment like "a day in the life" or "week in the life"... of a highly recruited kid, something like that.... How they balance school and basketball and the rest of their life and still have time to be a teenager.

Also would be great if you could get college coaches interviews. What are they looking for in a recruit, do they truly understand when a kid has a bad game or are they looking for them to be on 24/7...etc.

I like the idea of the college coach interview as well but the problem is maintaining partiality. Some coaches would be upset if they didn't get an opportunity to talk because it is perceived as exposure for their program and we don't want to become a part of the recruiting process itself. I'll talk with Glenn about it and we'll see what we can do.

I'm interested to hear from others how distracting that was. In producing the piece, then checking it afterward, I heard the players fine. Sometimes we do not have a choice as to where our interviews take place, and this was one of those times. At first I freaked a little about it, then thought bouncing balls really puts you there (in this case, the U19 trials).

I think we'll get better at this as time passes. We essentially got some high-quality recorders and some software and have thrown this into the huge pile we have going with the transition and all. Any feedback is appreciated!

I heard the kids fine. Took a few seconds to mentally block out the bouncing balls but after that it was not a problem at all.

i had a little more trouble hearing elena than i did angie. i dunno if she was further away from the recorder or just has a softer voice, but it wasn't much of a problem. i think part of it was there was no background noise when chris and glenn were talking, and then all of a sudden it was there w/ angie and elena...but again no big deal and i really enjoy these!

One way to get a coaches perspective without promoting any particular program might be to try to get an interview with any Coaches that are now retired....Moss for instance to get their take on recruitment, what they look for etc.

I can tell you that the coaches that I know tell me that they look at everything including the warmups before the game. They watch how the player responds if they are on the bench and get put back in the game as well as vocal leadership on the court...Oh yeah and then there is the skills...

Very true. I was a D2 coach and often went into games without any school insignia so my presence would not necessarily be noted. I usually sat near the floor so I could see how kids carried themselves and related to teammates, refs, etc. It's easy to determine if a kid has the skill set or athleticism to compete on your level. The hard part is getting a handle on the type of person they are (the recruiting process is more than a little artificial on both ends).

Glenn and Chris - I love the podcasts and the whole site. You guys are doing a tremendous job.

Very good job. It was nice hearing things from both yours (Glenn and Chris) and the Ladies' perspectives.

And, an added benefit of audio: I'm lost with the pronounciations of some of the players' names.

Thanks!, and looking forward to the next edition.

I take time to dig out the old-school grooves for these podcasts, the least you can do is call them out

It's best if you right click it and save the target to your desktop. Then you don't have to worry about streaming the audio over the internet and you can add it to your Ipod or other MP3 devise if you don't want to listen on your CPU itself.

Glenn, you're really getting into the IH's head with your DJ mode. You go from the Godfather Of Soul in podcast #1, to one of the jazz-funk masters on podcast #2 in Herbie Hancock! You know you can strike me out in podcast #3 by throwing some Miles Davis at me...

Bitches Brew, eh? We may be messing up the heads of the current generation! Or showing them why ours are messed up ...

intelligenthoodlum

Definitely the latter! I don't know if you want to hit them with The Brew-ski here; you may want to let the babygirls get in college first, before they start exploring THAT Miles vibe. Probably some of his later contemporary-jazz/r&b vibes would be more appropriate for these girls and their stressed-out mommies and daddies...

I finally found 34 minutes to listen to Podcast Numero Dos! That was great. The time went bye really quick and you guys covered a lot of ground. If you guys keep this up I won't have to go to anymore tournaments. The basketballs in the background didn't bother me it gave it more of a real vibe to the interview. I was able to hear both young ladies very clear. I had the two voices mixed up all the way til the end. Sounds like Angie is from Philly and EDD is from Washington! Great personalities and I'm sure they both will do fine at the U19 and in college.

I would love to hear from some of the aau coaches in regards:
*How they prepare for tournaments
*Who are some of the top players that worry them on the circuit
*Whats there involvement in the recruiting process
*Is there any beef with the H.S coaches of their players
*Who is the toughest team out on the circuit that they have gone against

I think this would make for a great seperate podcast at the midwest since there will be lots of top notch aau coaches there.

Once Again Great Job!!

Guys, I think we're getting a little too carried away on the music tip; my bad, for getting emotional on the Herbie's Headhunters, and sparking it off. Quite uncharacteristic of the IH, sports fans, that emotional vibe.
Yo pirate, if you want to go there, check out "25 O'Clock" by The Dukes Of Stratosphere, an XTC offshoot project of late '60's psychedelic rock, done '80's style. You might not want to do any real partying the first couple of times you listen to it, though. You can thank the IH later.
Oh, well. Back to ballin'. How about HoopGurlz.com's attendance and following podcast of the adidas elite circuit events for the country's 7th/8th/9th-graders, and the following Top-Ten Camp for them, July 7-9, in Atlanta?

scoutnwhoops
05-25-2007, 01:28 AM
The Top Ten in Atlanta is pretty much a given. I don't know if we're ready to stretch down to the super youngers. I think the goal is to be deep into the 9th-11th graders continually.

IH, maybe you or anyone who attends those events could give us a update along the lines of the one you did last year? Or maybe some of those folks in the know on the AAU circuit of the 7-9th grade age groups? I think Hoopsking will hit a event or 2 out east.

Who are some of the top frosh to keep an eye out for this summer? We know of Avant and a couple others that scoutnwhoops wrote about at the WCE event.

Udy11 are you asking about 2011 players or rising freshman?
