Redmond 62 Lake Washington 55

A good sized crowd saw a entertaining game between two of the hottest teams in KingCo 4A tonight at Lake Washington. The Redmond Mustangs, riding an 8 game winning streak met the Lake Washington Kangaroos, sporting their own eight game winning streak. The game started out slowly as both teams were tight, after two plus minutes Redmond lead 1-0. Junior wing Courtney Martin had 7 points in the first quarter and Redmond led 13-10. The second period saw Lake Washington take over, forcing several turnovers and taking advantage of a few unforced errors all of which led to a 21 point second quarter and a 31-24 halftime advantage.

Things looked bleak for the Mustangs as the Kangaroos moved ahead to an 11 point lead early in the third quarter. Redmond head coach Dennis Edwards called a much needed time out and put the Mustangs in a full court press. This move, led by junior guard Alicia Valentine’s three steals and two lay-ups, narrowed the lead to four at the end of the third period.

The fourth quarter was all Redmond as the Mustangs superior size and strength led to multiple lay-ups by sophomore post Marissa Pratt and some strong dribble drive moves and offensive rebounds put-backs by Martin as Redmond poured in 21 fourth quarter points for the final margin of victory.

Martin led all scorers with 23 points. Senior guard Mary Petrie had 12 and Pratt added 9 for the Mustangs.

Senior point guard Amanda Juarez led the Kangaroos with 13; senior wing Kaylee Van Nort added 8 points while both senior guard Amanda Cryder and junior wing Katie Rasmussen had 7 points.

Redmond moves to 5-2 in KingCo’s Mountain division and 11-2 overall while Lake Washington is now 4-3 in KingCo’s Lake division and 10-3 overall.
