Runrun said he didn't know if he would rank any of the Texas teams because they don't travel and that's fine, that's his opinion. I think this link to USA Today says it all.

I order for the rankings to mean something, you need honest people from the various regions giving input, not someone who will rank schools if there kids are on their AAU club or if the coach is a friend, just honest observations.

The boys side made a statement. Here's the no brainer for the girls side: If Texas teams can't travel out of state and/or the city but teams in the Eastern United States can, why don't they travel here? Something needs to happen in order for the girls national rankings to be legit, either Texas' school districts change their policies or a Texas vs. The Nation tournament to be held during the holidays like the boys do.

Simmie,
Is anyone looking into this in H-Town?

I've been told that not all Texas teams are restricted in travel. I tried to get Bellaire into the TOC and when I got the two parties together they couldn't figure it out. I don't know the reason.

The TOC won't likely move since the setup in Arizona is pretty seamless and they have a relationship built with that community but someone in Texas should put something together.

Bellaire has been historically one of the top academic programs in the area for years. Many kids on the team could get academic scholarships and finals were going on the same time as TOC. As far as teams traveling to the West Coast for a girls basketball tournament, economics also plays a part. Houston can't get all the top HOUSTON teams in a tournament together and over the past few years we have seen several top players come through the area and I can only imagine how many scouts they could have attracted. Two of the big tournaments this year, the Ft Bend and HISD, had very small crowds for the championship games. To me that's sad because in the Ft Bend Tournament, Dulles had Kelsey Bone, everyones #1 player for 2009 except ASGR, more on that later and Bellaire who IMHO is the top team in the area and probably the state featuring 8 or 9 D1 players and no one was there. To top that off less than 40 folks attended the Aldine Tournament Final 4 which featured Griner, #2 by almost everyone for 2009 and Elonu, top 40 player everywhere for 2008. The big boys probably look at it as not being able to generate any or enough revenue. Maybe someone will come up with a BOYS and GIRLS TOURNAMENT, featuring the top 16 boys and top 16 girls teams. Who knows? As far as the rankingsfor right now, whoever is doing them should network with knowledgeable people in the various areas across the country. That may be hard since our ranking system in Texas is not the greatest (lol)
