I was just reading about Washington State's great recruiting class this season, but it got me thinking.
They have a 12 player roster this season. None of them are seniors. One, Brynn Bemis is on scholarship from the soccer team. That brings it down to 11 returning scholarship players.
Now they add seven freshmen, which brings the total up to 18, while the max for scholarships for D-I is 15, I believe.
Anyone know how they plan on working that?

Now I think this is correct, but scholarships are NOT 4 year scholarships, they are renewed annually and women's basketball I think get 15 full. Now they could divide them up amongst several players evenly or what typically happens is those that won't be offered 'full' scholarships will end up transferring to places that will give them full scholarships.
The common misperception is they are 4 year scholarships and that isn't the case.
You see this a lot with Division I basketball and especially when new coaches come in town and want to see their own talent a little quicker.

So she's just gonna drop some of the players that already play for her and have been at the school for a couple years?

She'll try to find other ways to come up with aid (academically if possible) for any of her players to see if that will free up 1 or 2 scholarships. Yet those players that are holdovers from Coach Murrell that June doesn't see fitting into her program could have her try to offer them just half a scholarship or paint a bleak picture which usually forces those players that want to play and stay on a full scholarship transfer to another school.
I'm not saying it happens this way every time, but usually a common scenario is seen across the country.

One player is leaving after graduation (redshirt junior) and with new coaching I wouldn't be surprises if there is a transfer or two.
