I am posting this as it is my opinion. However there exist on this Board, a far reaching fans of girls hoops, Glenn and Chris leading the Pack. So I wnat to know if you think the same.
UW fired its Coach. She went to WSU with her in state connections and rolodex. The Coach at Gonzaga is getting girls that a lot of "Big" good basketball schools wanted. The new UW coach is in her Honeymoon period, because she hasn't made anybody angry yet. Her calls are returned ect. Still a lot of people are angry that the former UW now WSU coach was fired. Some post here and did.
In my opinion, the young ladies will see recruiting a lot sooner than before. The good players will be gone a lot sooner than before.
Here is what I think will happen because of that. All scholarships will be used up for the three I mentioned. A girl that developes late, will go to out of state bigs or instate smaller schools. Now, is this a boon for the in state schools??? Or will it cause more miles and bucks in the off season to see girls play in AAU Tourneys??
As an aside, Daughtery has established a rapport with the New Zealand Tall Fern coach. She got McCormick for UW and soon after getting the WSU job she got the best guard off the National Junior team. When you are getting first pick of the litter, you have a leg up on other schools.
I am interested in what all of you think either way.

Washington is not the only state with hyper competitive recruiting but with the growth of the sport in our region it is now coming out that not only are there plenty of talented young women in the state and region but the universities want their wbb programs to do well to boot. At Washington I think some credit can go to old Babs Hedges who was crushed by the Neuheisel Debacle but also put a great deal of energy and money into the women's programs.
At Gonzaga you had a similar formula that now exists at WSU, a nationally recognized men's program. The national visibility doesn't just allow national recruiting but also improves the prestige within the state. Gonzaga has some great pieces but still recruits to win their conference and to compete with the Pac-10. They don't waste their time recruiting a bunch of 6-4 post players because there are so few of them, they are in high demand and really aren't necessary for the style of play in the WCC, generally.
WSU is hoping to capitilize the same way with the visibility of the school being brought by the mens program.
This doesn't mean that kids are going to have to commit early or be lost in the mix. California has how many tough programs? The great talent in the DC/Metro area is competed for by national programs as well as Maryland, Virginia, VT, Georgetown, etc, etc.
The local kids just need to do their homework on the recruiting process and be active in it. If they are armed with the knowledge of how it works they should not get lost in the shuffle. The worst thing they can do is sit back and wait to know things. Get out and talk to people early and find the best fit for you.
Back to your point though, I don't think we're in a crisis, the area just isn't used to it. I think even June would tell you that the trips to Pullman used to be get in, win and go home. She's obviously hoping to change that dynamic and if she can and there are three fantastic D-1 experiences in the state to choose from the kids who get those opportunities will benefit greatly in their basketball experiences as well as their education.

I din't mean there will be a crisis. In fact I think it will be a boon for the Girls. What you said abut the girls doing their homework is key and a point I didn't think of. But WSU before didn't get any big names, I think that is about to change. What we all have to wait for is for the New UW coach will do now she is in place. If how she kept that whole class (07 & 08) is any indication, I think she will be will do well. I agree with you on how the attention paid to recruiting in theis state is going up and this site helps in letting all of us keep up with it.
A point on what Chris said for you potential recruits. A kid from Cascade that lived down the street from me, was being sought by all major schools but the one he wanted, Notre Dame. His coach (Terry Ennis) asked him where he wanted to go, and he told him. He had the Video guys put a tape togeather and the lad never got a call, just the Paperwork in the mail for him to sign and return. Helped that he had Ennis as a coach, but my point is that Chris is right. Your parents can video your games and you can have your high school and AAU coaches write a letter to include in the package. Start early.
Thanks Chris.
