What's going on with A-M? I mean no offense or anything but they struggled against SMU and then lost to team USA by the score of 75-24. Hopefully they do better as the rest of the season goes on.

Well its the start of the season. Losing to USA is expected. ASU had a hard time also. I expect USC and Stanford will also have a very tough time.

Among the top 2007-2008 freshmen, #3 Jantel LAVENDER and #4 Kayla PEDERSEN will have to have the most impact for their respective teams (i.e., Ohio State and Stanford, respectively) to be at least at the same performance level as the year before.....
LAVENDER will pretty much have to replace the All-American numbers of Jessica DAVENPORT (20.0 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 2.8 bpg); she might be able to come close to Jess' point production and rebounding, but she is not known for her shot blocking
On the other hand, PEDERSEN has to fill the void created by the departure of Brooke SMITH and Kristen NEWLIN; if Michelle HARRISON's knee injury is as serious as suspected, then Stanford will totally rely on Kayla and Jayne APPEL for post production - not a bad tandem, considering that APPEL was the #1 center from the Class of 2006 while PEDERSEN was the #1 power forward from the Class of 2007. I expect Kayla to log something like 32 minutes/game, especially against top level competition, but hopefully will be given much breather versus mediocre opponents - thank God that latter team description holds true for half of the Pac 10 conference!

#51 Sam Woods had 17 points and 7 rebounds as Purdue narrowly defeats Valpo 65-62. She was one of the few bright spots for the Boilers. :(

Let me tell you a story, true story in fact. We were playing Carolina Classics in AAU Nationals a few years ago and we lost 98-33. We had kids banged up, in fact Sydney got hurt the first play of the game. Two nights later, we play them in bracket play and we beat them. Now what's worse, losing to a team by 60 or beating the team that beat you by 60? Bottom line it was one of those games where nothing was falling and jkids were hobbling.

Brooklyn Saints daughter, Melanie Murphy of Stanford played down the stretch in that game against Rutgers and provided floor leadership.
Of course he was there. :)

She's a great player for Stanford. I love Ros and JJ but I think Melanie provides the most consistency and shoul db eour starting PG. It is still early though, we'll have to wait and see how things progress against top teams in Baytlor, UConn, Tennessee, Cal, and AZ State on our schedule.
Tonight Stanford vs. USA
