I have never met the Coach personaly. I will change that at my first opportunity. I enjoyed watching his teams play. And folks, they could play and well. I am surprised that he didn't get a heads up as connected as he is. So it was a very closed door decision. The "didn't renew his contract" is a cop out in my opinon by a principal with no backbone. Like I said, it is a very sad day.

After reading the article about Coach Resler, it seems like he was dealt with very unfairly, especially with 3-days prior to team tryouts. Mr Brian Vance, the Principal showed no backbone for what he did, i.e., did not do, renew the guys contract. There seems to be a lot more beneath the surface on his unceremoniously being let go than really meets the eye. Recommendation to the Parents of the returning Team: Have your daugthers meet with the principal (Mr Vance), and the School Board Superintendent or their spokesman to insist they reconsider their decision--that is if they want their coach back. There is a due process of law, even for high school coaches, especially, if they have ran a successful program within the state & the county...! Best of luck to the RHS girls team.

School districts have no backbone as we have seen in a number of cases (i.e. Chief Sealth, Auburn Riverside, etc.) so they have got to have something pretty damaging on him and alcohol is mentioned a few times in the article. I don't care what your record is or how many state titles you have won; if you drink around kids you are going to be fired.

From what I have read, Coach Resler didn't do any of the magic things to give a school district a no brainer to fire him. Normally as in the Meadowdale coach two years ago, you get the so called counseling first, then they fire you. Resler said he was blindsided. We'll see if the parents and Alumni prevail. I would be willing to bet $5 against a rolling donut, that the Principal is having some serious second thoughts about now. I am on the coaches side until I hear a fact that he has committed the no brainer. From what I see and read he is clean.
NOTE: If you can get canned for cussing, a whole bunch of coaches are history.

I don't understand why the administration is doing this without specific evidence of what he is doing to hurt the program, players or the school community. I am not a fan of profanity because it can promote an unhealthy atmosphere but I agree, I hear profanity all the time from coaches. They need to crack down on all of them if they are going to do that to such a highly prestigious coach as Resler. Obviously the girls love him and we need to watch out for the coaches that are abusive and demeaning to young women they have under their leadership. I really do hope they reinstate him and maybe just give him a slap on the wrist for the swearing.

The lack of information from the administration side is not out of the ordinary. I've been on the trail of several coaches (not Resler) and it seems almost commonplace for administrators to not comment or even note in files reasons for dismissals. In several cases, I got the reasons from other sources and they were pretty serious. I guess the concern is over getting sued over the reasoning. So most administrators choose to simply make the move and then move on.

If any of you read the "Coaches Who Prey" series in the Seattle Times, you'll recall that there was a story that said basically the same thing. Even in the most heinous cases, there was silence - again, for legal reasons.

before the 2006 season the St.Louis school board fired the XXXX time boys state champion coach. He also had the title of athletic oversight for the schooll system which allowed him to oversee his fellow conference coaches at a salary 10 times theres. When he left the community was up in arms, when he left he took all the uniforms. And on and on. - I'm writing this to say the years of his being allowed to operate without control was so ingrained that his supporters were indignant. Where were the brains?

NWCN is running a 30 sec plus spot with a short interview with Resler and also a parent. I agree with Glenn that the school district will stay mum and say nothing. I know of several that the word got out several years after the fact. Resler is a bit different in that he let a film crew have access to him and his team. Any untoward actions would have been spotted then. But, I am still on the Coaches side. I need a fact or facts before I will change my mind.

Would someone from the Seattle area update the Forum on the most recent status of Bill Resler and how the girls at Roosevelt HS are coming along in their season opening preparations...? We are pulling for the team...!
