View Full Version : The Fashion Statement Of A Babygirl Baller?

Or the mood she's in when she's balling? AND the mood she's in when she's blazing your butt?
Sports fans, what is up with this recent trend amongst high school and college swisher-sweeties to paint their nails BLACK?
It is each one's desire to feel like a witch--or its similar-sounding twin, with the different first letter--in how she's going to do you on-the-court?
Should the IH and her opponents be afraid of how this Voodoo Woman is gonna roll, once the jump ball goes up? Is this a statement by her that we are in for a HARD DAY?
And while the IH is at it, what's up with the fancy knee pads with these girls nowadays? Almost gone are the generic, bulky, and ugly soccer-style knee pads. Now, these girls are moving to the color-coordinated, streamlined, and slicker-looking wrestling-style knee pads.
The IH for years has been paying attention to the infinite choices of imprints, patterns, and colors in the socks that these girls wear during practices and games.
The IH even knows of a baby-baby baller who travels with several pairs of basketball shoes, so she can color-coordinate them with her uniforms for whatever teams she plays on and for whatever camps she participates in!
Are sports bras and compression pants next?!

And yes, the IH has seen, at the high school and college levels, the color-coordinated contacts in the eyes of some of these girlie-girl ballers, on the court...

I love the fact the these baby girls are embracing their inner "fashionista".

It is a refreshing change from the baggie jean, oversized white-tee, doo-rag hat-to-the-back trend that was going on in the earlier part of the decade.

On My HANDS! LOL!
I love seeing these youngsters express themselves, especially now the 80's theme is rolling thru again! I had a party for my 13 yr old & her team came, I'm so used to seeing them in bball clothes that I didn't even recognize some of them in their girly girl fashions! But it was refreshing. As the creativity is blossoming off the court, it's bound to spill on the court and accessories and apparatuses are going to be more & more interesting. As long as they don't have nails ON, I'll take them seriously!

The IH remembers his salad days, from after college to the IH's mid-thirties, when a few of his "significant others" used to do the black nails thing. The IH always kept at least one eye open, at ALL times, bad AND good--the IH is well aware of the spells that an educated and experienced woman can put on a man.
Of course, there was one in particular who the IH was especially careful around. After one particular day and evening of hanging out and vibing with each other, she told the IH, in a calm, matter-of-factly voice, "IH, if you EVER mess over me while we're together, YOU WILL REGRET THE FIRST DAY YOU MET MET ME."
Yeah...

I asked three of my players this question and am giving their reaction.

13 year old point guard - I like the black polish. It lets me be a girl with polish on with being all girly and worrying about if my polish matches or what. I also can cover up chips easier because I do not have time to do it. I also like the black because my fingernails are short but it shows I am tough with a tough color.

15 year old post - I like black because it means do not mess with me. I do not have time for girly things and I will not think twice about popping you.

16 year old point guard - I put on whatever color is laying around my house. I do not wear black. I may play like a boy but I am still a girl.

Do not know if that helps IH but I agree I would be careful of the witchcraft ones.
