Last year Christmas(Duke) and S Gilbreath(usc). This year B Gilbreath, Brookly Pope and Destini Hughes will be playing at USC, Rutgers and LSU respectively. I have had the pleasure of knowing these kids for some time,Briana forever, Brooklyn for three years and Destini since she was in the 6th grade. They are great players along with being great kids and I wish all of them well. Oh yeah the H and H bunch at OU, Hand and Hartman. Hey those 7 would be a pretty darn good team in itself.

We'll have to see about Nneka Ogwumike in the following weeks, and possibly Adora Elonu. Hey Congrats on Sydney Colson being named one of the 4 captains on the A-M team. That's Awesome

Why do you think this is happening?

And it's not like Texas offers poor college teams

You Have:

Texas
Texas A-M
Texas Tech
Baylor

3/4 of those teams shall be top 25 teams this year and they all have pretty darn good coaches.

I don't know what's going on. There could be many reasons but one is the lack of national attention within our state in the past. Some might say that going to a school outside of the state is like a feather in the cap but Simmie hit the nail on the head when mentioning Mr. Gilbreath taking Stephanie and Briana out of the Houston AAU scene and into the national scene, i.e. West Coast Elite. This opened up a lot eyes in the state of Texas that national exposure events not only make you better but give the player a chance to showcase their talent in front of the top coaches in the country. With the latest verbals to schools outside the state of Texas just shows that national exposure events work. The word "national" explains it all.

Congratulations to all of these young ladies!!!

Glenn I think it has to do with kids seeing how well the Gilbreaths did on the circuit and wanting a piece of the pie. Houston and Texas had been sold on the fact that AAU Nationals was everything for years however how many kids actually get national pub from just that? This along with folks figuring out where the better players were playing and where the head coaches were going in July also helped and it is giving the top kids options. Don't get me wrong, kids have always gone out of state but not at this level of MAJOR basketball programs. For my daughter, there was no need but some kids want to get away and some need to get away but I guess that's everywhere.

Yeah we can't even get local attention and please let's not talk about folks manipulating rankings if you are with their programs. Texashoops got feedback from folks like the KING and I can only speak from what I have seen over the years. If the guy didn't like a kid or the program the kid was in, well you know what happened.

Yeah that was something that caught me off guard but she has that whatever it is she has and it seems to work. I'm proud of my baby.

to get out of state in these elite showcases and they are getting to see what the other states and universities have to offer. They are not afraid to venture out. I have 4 kids in the last two year that decided to play out side the state of NC. This is becoming a norm and I my self welcome it. They are at Morgan State, Temple, G-town and maybe VCU....

Agreed and this is what I was saying. AAU Nationals was being PREACHED as the only way however after attending three AAU nationals and being able to hit two showcases in the same amout of time along with observing the talent and who was watching, the word spread like wildfire.

Have no fear, when Gail gets it going and returns to the top 25 she will have Texas all to herself. Just give her time.

look I'm in Texas and after this 2009 class this thing really evens up. I'm watching kids from 11 on up and the talent is spread around so you won't see a bunch of kids who are head and shoulders above the next kid. If you do a top 100, 5 and 50 will be almost the same so it really won't matter.

I am with you on that. In Houston alone you'll see a lot of girls starting at early age. We have a growing population of girls basketball in Houston and I am hoping that people around these girls be righteous in their act so we can keep on growing.

I wouldn't waste your time speculating, or pretending you know what people's reasons are for choosing out of state colleges. You don't know unless you know the girl and the family.

For example, one well-known recruit that has been mentioned on this board has used basketball as an escape for years, from a bad home life. She wanted to get as far from home as possible, and she found a school that fit that bill. She's excited about it, and so is that high-profile college.

Then there are the kids who may have an OK home life, but who just want to get out and on their own.

It's not necessarily any fault of the state of Texas.

I won't even speculate on that one.
