IH -
I've followed your posts and others for a long time. Most of which are very intetresting and entertaining. This particular thread has caught my attention and made me say hmmm...
I think RBR does a great job of promoting players in the DC/MD/VA area. RBR has obviuosly taken the time to scout and put together their own synopsis of players' talents.
I'm not an advocate of player rankings, for these reasons, (a) it doesn't carry a whole lot of weight after high school (it can't accurately speak to a player's ability to transition at the next level), (b) it can have an adverse impact on players while still in HS. The adverse impact comes to light when creditable ranking services unexpectedly and with no explanation drop players in rank. I realize RBR has offered an Alpha list here and not order ranking, but I understand there's a ranking list available for colleges.
Maybe it's RBR's way of being flexible and current, which is great. RBR please be conscientious and cautious that you are not damaging the stock of other talented players in the region by this wave of promotion. The wave is the ranking of a player and then not ranking or dropping them based on the performance of the week(s) or month(s). If RBR is a creditable tool used by by recruiters then you can fully understand this concept of stock value.
Clarity...not a hater here, I appreciate RBR, its efforts and strong interest in girl's basketball.

The RBR is something done by IH, correct? I didn't know you also provide info to colleges, IH?
With the list, it seems the girls who have already committed are lower on lists than other players. It seems like S. White has been running the show with Boo Williams for a few years now. That would seem to validate her being higher...disregard I just remember IH state alpha order but the numbers threw me off a little. Again, disregard.

Again, for ANY scouting service that ranls players, the RANKING of players promotes and provokes COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS amongst its clients, who in this case are college coaches.
And any rankings should reveal the point of reference of the evaluator(s). And should also reveal up-to-date evaluations of the players, with evaluation of the players' most recent performances.
For example: if a player has recent performances that indicate that she's slipping in the key facets of her game, RELATIVE to the others at her position and in her class, then we move her down (and, vice-versa). In no way would this mean that this same player wouldn't be able to go to college for free anymore, or at all.
The colleges know this. They are trained and professional recruiters. And they're not going to only use the RBR as a reference on a player, if they use it at all. They're going to consult other regional services; national services, other scouts and evaluators; and opposing coaches, even, from the school season AND summer-club season.
The thought process here is that a regional service is going to have watched most of these girls more comprehensively than would the national services. And may look at these players from an entirely different perspective. So, a college consulting these different references should get a comprehensive PICTURE of a recruit.
As for the RBR on these boards, we brought it to these boards to recognize some of these top players in our region; to show that there's more in our region than just the politically-connected and the media-hyped; AND, to spur debate about our lists, AND others; and finally, to provoke thought about the definitions and roles of scouting services.
And, of course, anyone in our region who likes to watch girls basketball will want to go out and see as many of these girls as possible.

The RBR IS TALKED ABOUT on these boards by the IH. There are actually five people who are out looking at players in our region, who make up what the RBR is listing. We usually try to have at least three of us see each player, especially the players in each class who we feel are top-50 players in that class, in OUR rankings--because of the strength of our region, a top-fifty girl from our region should be able to get a D-1/high-D-2 scholarship.
What we'd REALLY like to see on these boards is MORE people coming up with THEIR lists. The more lists, the more players; the more players, the more getting scholarship opportunities...

I am new to this board and forum but I have a question about scouting services. Are they very profitable? In the case of RBR what are the qualifications to becoming a scout and how can I apply for a position?

The Real Basketball Report is a regional scouting service, that identifies and evaluates girls in the state of Mayland, the city of Washington, D.C., and the state of Virginia. It is available for purchase to college coaches, on a yearly-subscription basis.
The Report identifies and evaluates girls in this region, from 7th-grade through 12th-grade. They are ranked by standing in the class, by position regardless of class, and by standing regardless of class. The primary criteria for ranking are: talent and impact now; overall upside; and, projections based on the player's anticipated college position. Of course, a premium is placed on: skill sets; IQ and feel for the game; some form of athleticism or MOVEMENT; and some type of attitude and direction.

I think people forget that the list is in alphabetical order. If we did'nt have the RBR, we would be waiting for HGs to come to town in the summer, to rank a couple of our girls. These cats see more then a couple, and they rank em all year, and we get the gist of the names for free.At the very least the RBR points a person in the right direcrtion of who the players are. Before the RBR one had to serch all over to find a kid from Suitland or HDW,( This is, Girls basketball right?) the National sites have the top players, but find some info on Shontice Simmons?. Maybe the RBR should have some competition, but where are they?

With that logic you would have to exclude Western MD(Garrett County), Northern MD(Cecil, Harford) also.

The Real Basketball Report has ALWAYS covered the MD/DC/VA region, which is the entire state of Maryland, the entire state of Virginia, and the city of Washington, D.C.

The IH has already stated what the MD/DC/VA region is. The D.C. area, for logistical purposes, is the immediate coverage area of The Washington Post: up through Frederick County; across to Howard and Anne Arundel Counties; down through St. Mary's County and Spotsylvania County; and across to Culpeper and Rappahanock Counties.

CFergenjoys the fed back,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,but i'm sensing a little attitude( i see you are respected on here) but there are people on here who are from the dc area)meaning me who have been around and coached on all levels of basketball boys and girls.(B&G Club, A.A.AU. AND HIGH SCHOOL) STILL COACHING AS WE SPEAK. Who also know a litttle about this game we call Basketball.

Why would the IH catch a 'toode about standard geography and newspaper coverage areas? And the IH has no memory of presenting his opinion as Gospel...

(Only for the school year scens someone mentioned the wash, post.) Q?- If we checked the stats of the washington post+ the amount of lagit high school teams played in that year + talent levels on the teams could we come close to predicting the better players? Or are we just picking girls by what our eyes see or our emotions feel. numbers and facts don't lie. Play the numbers and see who truely did there homework.

I think numbers can be misleading if they're not lying. Numbers are reported to the Post by the coaching staff of the the team from their book, if you have a dishonest system or person/ppl in your system, these numbers can be whatever one would like them to be.
Unlike other services the Post "ranks"/rates players/teams off of those numbers, not other factors like upside, level of competition, strength of schedule, etc. Sometimes they may have only seen a team once.

The IH is one of thousands who have opinions--it's just that the IH states his on these boards much more often than others...
