I was just picking the top 5 players in the state of Texas, not by position
hey sim111 where do you think nneka will go

When I rank kids, I take a lot of things into consideration and in other words, I have to see it for myself. In HS my daughter never lost to Cinco Ranch(2), the Gilbreaths, beat Nimitz, Griner and went 1 and 2 with Cy Fair, the Ogwumikes. In fact she was the leading scorer in all of the wins and one of the losses to Cy Fair, so looking at rankings does not necesarily mean you are looking at the best players. Lot's of times the folks doing the rankings haven't even seen all the players or seen them enough with the right summer program. Nneka will probably attend some college outside of Texas and you better get some shooters and ballhandlers when you pick a squad.

I am such a big fan of hers, love her game, tons and tons of luck at Texas A-M, what was the deciding factor to going to A-M over Lsu and Okla? When she was little what did u do to get her intereste din the game, did u buuy her like little basketballs for her when she was young? what did u do to get her to be such astar?

Sydney has that awesome floater in the lane shot that she mastered against Cy-Fair at the end of the season, wat did she do u get that down, it reminds me of Mike Conley Jr from Ohio State, he has the same floater in the lane shot

My kids amaze me and this is something that made me really proud and it's not basketball related. When Sydney was in the 8th grade, she played against her best friend in elementary school and I chatted with the young ladies mom. The mom told me her daughter was hysterical that first day of school in kindergarten because she didn't know anyone and she said Sydney walked up to the girl, put her arm around her and said I'll be your friend little girl. That blew me away.

Thanks and hopefully everything goes okay. We got a chance to meet some fantstic people while she was being recruited and I really like most of them especially Pokey and Coach Coale however A&M was on her from the jump and I liked Blairs philosophy. Some colleges stopped recruiting her because an AAU coach started spreading lies about her and myself but it was a blessing in disguise. Her brother and sister played in fact her brother actuallly put the work in with them and playing against boys at a young age really helped.

Man it just happened, the same way those 30 footers just happened. I remember the first time I saw her shoot from the time line in the 10th grade, as she let it go I'm thinking what in he.., good shot baby.

Was Texas A-M always her dream college? Or did she not really have a favorite and choose A-M for its academics, bball, fball,...? ANd did she ever go on Hoopgurlz.com or scout.com and see what scouts had to say about her? As a huge Stanford fan, What should a hs player (Nneka who is coming on Firday, i am sooo excited) be looking for. When they go to the university do the coaches immediatly try to persaude them that their college is the best for them or do the college coaches try to be very easy going and agree with everything the hs player has to say? Was it like buying a new car and the salesman drives you out of your mind nuts? SIm111 if i am bugging you, let m eknow , i am just really excited for u and your daughter, when i get older ( I am 14) i would love to see my kids play ball

She never really had a dream college and the only campuses she visited were A&M and UT, she has a brother and sister there. She was being overwhelmed with calls and it got to the point that she had enough so she picked the school who showed the most interest for the longest amount of time. I think all coaches have their own way of doing things but over the years I have talked to many parents and it appears some coaches are following a script. Sydney rarely reads the boards and shw knows everyone has their own opinion however it sometimes goes a bit deeper than that. Nneka is a very level headed young lady and I am sure she will think this through. You're only 14? Wow! Anything you need to know keep asking. I see a lot of ball down here, I'm in Houston so anything you need to know, I'm here.

You must be really proud. I do hope other AAU organizations will use yours as an example. You all are doing great and hope all the girls and parents that read this board will learn and make the right choices. Way to go Simmie. I am so proud of you and your daughter.:) I wish her all the best in her college career. May she blossom and make you a more prouder Dad. Good Luck!

Simmie,
I overheard that the Angels team what's left of it is attending the Cy-Fair Adidas camp at the Gym in Atascosita hosted by CyFair Texans. I have read some of your postings @ http://texashoops.rivals.com about mis-representation. Are you referring to the same group? (CyFair Texans adidas camp/tournament )? If so, please let me know so I can advise some of the parents I knew regarding sending their children to this camp this weekend. Thank you sir.

YES, this is the same guy. If he sees a kid that can play, wait back that one up. If someone tells him that kid can play, he is going to go to the parents a lie and say he represents Adidas, which he doesn't. He is with Mike White and you can find numerous posts regarding that guy on Hoopgurlz. Also why is a 12u team playing in the event? I think these events are good for kids who haven't had a chance to go out and do their thing or seniors who didn't solidify themselves over the summer. I didn't let my daughter play in the September events because she was set so why risk it.

That is what's fishy. I am thinking they would want to check these girls out and get them under their umbrella and bait them while they're young. Hmmmm... that kind of made me think why they are there now. We can all smell it later when it's raw. I would think some of them should maybe just join MY Stars under Mike Young. It's another start up team this year and will surface AAU scene early next year. I would think it will be a great organization. I am not sure at this time, but you can be a better judge on that. Give me your thoughts.

Yea, Sorry, didnt mean to get off topic, anyways, i am really excited for the ogwumiek family to get a chance to see the wonderful northern california, th ebeautiful stanford campus, th ehotspots in Palo ALto, today is was actually pretty cool here, it was cloudy til about noonish and it has clearn up for the most part, but the more and more i think about it, nneka an dchiney would be the ideal people for this stanford team, they will bring great chemistry to Jayne and Kayla, who seem pretty easy going, this group coul dbe special, how could you not like palo alto and the stanfor dcampus, look at the pics

Do you play pickup games and practice with the other players, do you try to do everything you can in that town in the period you are there? Cuz Nneka came yesterday I believe and I don't know how long she will be there but what kind of stuff would Tara and the rest of the cardinal do to entertain Nneka and Chiney

I have no idea what they plan on doing. On official visits, the kids are usually taken out to eat but as far as the rest, I have no idea. Don't worry about these posters who may need a bit of fiber because that was just too much crying over nothing.

The official visit is 48 hours. The coaches set up an itinerary of things to do while on campus. The itinerary is a guide. Usual a class, tour of the campus, football/volleyball game etc. The recruit can elect to do all of the things on the list or none of the things. One of the players on the team is normally selected to be a guide during the visit. The recruit normally selects what restaurant to eat at based on a list of restaurants in the area. There is practice time with the players. Once again the recruit can opt out of playing with the team. The players normally take the recruit to an after hours event (party) during the visit. This gives the recruit an idea of what the social life is on campus.

I don't know Nneka or Chiney, so no I have not heard anything. Stanford is the type of place you either like or you don't. It depends on individual taste. I'm sure Stanford did everything they could to make Nneka & Chiney visit enjoyable. Now we can only wait and hope.

This is that long wait that gets more Tense by the second. I really hoped they liked it. Stanford is such a great Campus, Its HUGE but has amazingly n ice facilities and people. If I was a betting man, I would say Baylor has the edge. Nneka wants to be a doctor and Baylor has a fine medical program. Nnekas family RARELY miss her games and I know they want to see her play and it's convienent. Although other schools with outstanding medical programs and are more convienent have been bad mouthed and lied on, it's all good and I will support the kid anyway.
