The No. 48 overall prospect in the 2008 class makes her choice:

I think that was a good choice for Goodrich, who clearly wanted ot play fairly close to home, and seemed to prefer the Big 12 over other conferences. Kansas just graduated two good senior guards, so she could have a chance to make an impact contribution early next year.
I believe that Oklahoma had been recruiting her, but I don't think they'd extended an offer. I think it was more like a wait-and-see situation regarding whether that scholarship would come. I think she was smart to go ahead and choose a school instead of waiting.

Is OU not very strong with the instate kids? I know Coale is a former h.s. coach but they lost out on E. Williams at Texas, Brewer to UT, Goodrich to KU. Are spending too much time and focus on the out of state kids? I know Ok. is a small state but shouldn't a top program have first dibs to their own party? Kinda of a Washington, CU , Oregon problem. Easy states to carpetbag in?

OU didn't offer Williams because they didn't think there was any way she could make her grades. Somehow Williams made her grades and went to Texas.
Brewer had a long-time dream of playing for Tennessee, I think OU was always her second choice. Pat's offer came, she accepted. As simple as that.
As good as Goodrich is, she was not near the top of OU's prospect list. OU will only sign two or at most three more players this year, and I have a hunch that they told Goodrich that it was very possible that OU would not offer. Sherri Coale doesn't offer more players than she has scholarships for in any case.
Oklahoma will have more quality players in the future, but the state hasn't been overrun with high Division I players over the last few years. Schools aren't automatic to sign instate players, the players have all kinds of motivations for going where they go.
Oklahoma will have four players from California his year, three from Oklahoma, two from Arkansas, and one each from Illinois, Kansas and Ohio. For the first time in recent memory, there aren't any Texas players on the roster. OU has a verbal commitment from one Texas player thus far for next year.

Alright, YCN, you must have had too much coffee the day you posted that. ;)
The story is: OU slow played Williams because they were waiting on Arriaran to commit. Arriaran talked to the Paris sisters and told them to check out OU. Williams didn't want to wait and committed to Texas. Later, Arriaran committed to Texas. Then the Paris sisters committed to OU. I would say OU got the better end of that deal:D
The player you are thinking of, YCN, is Danielle Gant. She wasn't going to make grades, then all of a sudden, she was a Texas A&M player. Most of us OU fans are still scratching our heads on how she made the grades. I think we would have looked at her hard if we had ANY inkling that she would be eligible for college.
As for Brewer, you are correct in that it was her long-time dream to play for Tenn. She also had a grandfather who wanted her to go out of state.
BallerGirl, I have heard rumors, emphasis on RUMORS, that many OK high school coaches are still smarting from the numerous and large beat downs that Norman high school put on their opponents during Coale's tenure as a hs coach. Her teams were ruthless and brutal.
FYI, I am the original giraffespots. However, for some reason, this board won't let me post anymore under that name. It keeps telling me my username/password combo is invalid, but when I try to re-register it tells me my email address is already registered. I tried to pm the technical help but I got a form letter and it said they would get back to me. Meanwhile, I had to correct this information for YCN and so I registered under my other email address and my new username is giraffespots2323. If anyone can help me straighten out this mess, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Giraffespots, I stand corrected. You are right in that it was Gant and not Williams.
OU's recruiting stories have been so convoluted in the last few years that I occasionally lose track of the players.
